Heads up for vinyl freaks and collectors

Posted by: Kevin-W on 11 April 2017

There's a new mag out, Long Live Vinyl. It's on issue 2, bought it earlier, seems pretty good. Much more about collecting, shopping, shops  and the "vinyl lifestyle" than about hi-fi (although there are TT reviews) and the minutae of SQ.

Issue 2 is out now, with features on Da Floyd, and a nice piece on Will (Goldfrapp) Gregory's fave vinyl LPs. He has immaculate taste, as you'd expect. There's a free flexi (oh, the memories!) with tracks by DIY electro-pioneer Thomas Leer and US oddballs The Residents, too.

Pricey at £9.99, but I enjoyed it.

Interesting, although unfortunately it's only likely to push 2nd hand prices even higher!

Do they make any quality judgements about new pressings?

Thanks
Clive

No, but that's not really the point of the magazine as far as I can see.

It's not really aimed at the Crosley crowd though - their TT reviews in issue 2 are the WB Circle 2 (with a NAC 272/NAP 250 DR and WB speakers) and an RP3/Brio and Neat SX1.

It better be bloody good. A six-month subscription delivered to the US is $104. That's $17.33 an issue

The digital version is $3.66 a copy but I'm not into reading virtual copies of magazines. I like paging through hardcopies at the breakfast table or in the listening room.

Thanks for the info though Kevin. If I see a copy on a newsstand I'll grab one and see what I think. Any chance you're a contributing writer?

No Randy, I'm not a contributor, but you've given me an idea!

I'm not a fan of e-magazines either. This one is nicely produced, on good paper stock. Not entirely sure it's worth a tenner, though.
