Superuniti conundrum

Posted by: WendyKL on 18 April 2017

Hello everyone, this is my first posting here.

I was mulling over buying the Superuniti for a while now but the price was well out of budget. I was just hoping to sign up with a streaming company and stream music with the unitiqute originally but then I thought what the heck might as well buy the higher end model for better quality music and hold on.

Now the entire uniti range has been updated. Does this mean the Superuniti has been discontinued? Would that then mean the price would drop and it would be more affordable on the second hand market? The new Uniti atom is about £1800 and I suppose for another £1k I could pick up a 2016 Superuniti?

Is the Nova the new Superuniti? Thats over £4k and out of my budget. Does anyone else stream with spotify and tidal with the Superuniti? I'm not bothered about having fancy album covers on the hifi unit as the new Uniti line shows as long as they can be seen on the app itself. Does the Superuniti have HDMI out for connection to TV? Sorry for all the questions. I'm just very excited at being able to buy a Superuniti.

You should be able to pick up a good used Superuniti for £2k and when the replacement Nova becomes available, the price may drop further.

There is no HDMI on the SU. If your TV has an optical output, you could use that to route the sound to the hifi. I had one for a couple of years, and it worked well with Tidal and Spotify.

Although it has built in WiFi, the SU can be badly behaved with a wireless connection, and I would strongly recommend that you set up a robust wired network for it.

I recently traded in my SU, 2015 model - Bluetooth etc, which was immaculate and the store sold this on for £2,200 so they are already falling in value in anticipation of the new models

Yep - Superuniti owner here just waiting for the Nova. It's a great  machine but I'm not expecting more than 2K trade in. You have a treat in store.

Can I ask if anyone knows what are the internal upgrades the Nova has over the Superuniti? Thanks for the replies.

It has a very different and new architecture and design - especially around the digital and DAC elements and also applied much of the recent Naim learning and experiences from side effects from consolidation and integration affecting ultimate SQ. I am personally looking forward to it. I heard a prototype Nova and it sounded good. Architecturally it evolves  from the NDX, NDS and 272 on the streaming side - it may form the basis for future streamers such as the NDS2 and NDX2

I have a Superuniti, upgraded from a Unitilite and couldn't be happier. I stream via Tidal and Spotify have my TV connected via the optical input. I've connected to the internet with a cable (not wifi) and it hasn't missed a beat. I use it with Naim Allaes and NAC A5 and the sound is sublime, I have no plans to change it. Get one.

I have a superuniti.

It will be interesting to hear the new range from Naim and how much materially better/different it is.

I'd hang on and see what people think of the direct comparison when the Nova makes an appearance.

I recently sold my SU for 2k. There's a lot out there for sale that are overpriced I reckon.
