Naim App and the Asset smart setting on a Qnap NAS

Posted by: Dirty Deeds on 21 April 2017

Hi all,

I have just purchased the full version of Asset running it on a Qnap 453-A and have come across a annoying issue regarding the smart setting in the config'.

All is well when viewing the Artist through the A B C selections down the left hand side, i.e. The Who are found under W and shown as The Who.

When I look for through All Artists The Who are found under T not W

The most annoying thing is everything is displayed correctly in Linn's Kinsky App.

I have done a full re-scan and restart on both Asset and the NAS

Is this an issue with the Naim App and if so is there a fix?.

Thx in advance

Asset configuration pannel is not that complicated but you will have to spend a bit of time on it to get a result comparable to the naim app.

So asset is started, go to the asset page and clic "configure" - n the bottom of this page, you get "Edit browse tree" There you will be able to set the presentation in the Naim app or any other.

I did like that ->

Artist/album - Option "no track list"

+Album - Option "no track list"

++Title - Option none

Album - Option "A to Z" and "No track list"

+Title - Option none

Title - option "A to Z" (too many titles so easier that way)

Playlists - option none

Compilation - option "no track list"

+ Album - option "no track list"

++ Title - Option none

Folder & file name browsing - Option "no track list"

Make a try ;-)

Note that asset has a good forum. The dev answer quiet quickly if you have a more complicated question.

Cheers

This is my first post, having just joined these forums, so forgive my intrusion (especially as I don't yet have either a NAS or streamer). However, I've been doing a lot of research while awaiting the arrival of a Uniti Nova and NAS and have looked at Asset in the process. If you go to the Asset support pages there is a configuration manual which includes a reference to smart album handling. It says of Smart Mode this mode keeps the artist text as The Beatles yet sorts the artist under 'B'.

I suspect that setting may be what you need.

(Sorry not to include a direct link to the configuration manual: I was unsure whether that was permitted here.)

I don't believe this is an Asset issue,  I believe it might be something agreed with the various metadata/tag organisations.  My Synology 'Media Server'  filed 'The Beatles' under 'Beatles, The'  whereas its 'The Rolling Stones' & 'The Who' etc.   Personally I'm not bothered, got used to it etc.

Just to prove that it can be done...

I turned off the A-Z setting in the Naim app, as it overrides the Smart setting in Asset. Would much rather have "The" ignored, and find The Beatles under B.

Only downside is that I get dots instead of letters down the right hand side, so no big deal.

Hi Stephen, how do you locate the "Asset Configuration Manual" I can't find it?

Thanks for your help.

Chris, you can find the Asset configuration manual if you go to the main Asset page on the dBpoweramp site and look about two-thirds of the way down under "Downloads". It's a little confusing because it looks like a Debian Linux download but it is labelled Configuration Manual.

Thank you Mr Hook for taking the time to read the question and come up with the solution, it was beginning to drive me insane.

As soon as I disabled the A-Z function in the Naim App the smart function in Asset displayed as intended.

I have my 'the' artist and album sort handling set to [value], The, rather than smart. In that way I can leave the Naim app A-Z sort switched on.
