London second hand cd and lps
Posted by: Emre on 23 April 2017
Dear all
I will be in London next week
What would be the best second hand cd and lp stores to Visit? I am at West London but can travel everywhere with tube Right?
For buying some small stuff I approached audio sanctuary being my favorite retailer online but they failed to answer my 2 mails and then catch them trough headfi but they don't have much in stock of stuff they list on line, no fiio no audioquest vodka no noble iems, I wanted hugo 2 as well but HUGE order list etc not a chance for poor tourist, I am little disappointed by them to tell the truth.
Any hifi dealer to get a meridian explorer2, check new fiio, maybe get a pair of tellerium interconnects, listen Dave, I don't prefer online to ship my hotel because I want to do tax free as well.
All suggestions welcome
Hi There, there are a couple of second hand shops in Berwick Street Soho that I used to go to when in London.
Sister Ray & Reckless records. I used to get off at Oxford Circus tube and walk from there.
Prem.
There's Music & Video Exchange, used to be called Record and Tape Exchange, in Notting Hill, just a couple of minutes' walk from NH tube station - bought quite a bit from them at one time, though I haven't been there for 30 years (!) so I can't vouch for them now.
I would definitely take a walk down Berwick Street as mentioned above.
Then head to Fopp, which is not secondhand but probably the best prices in London for CD & Vinyl - they are located at 1 Earlham St, London WC2H 9LL
Just along the road from Fopp is Ray's Jazz which is on the 3rd Floor in Foyles bookshop - 107 Charing Cross Rd, Soho, London WC2H 0DT. It is small but they do have a rather good secondhand section.
Again not secondhand but well worth a visit to Rough Trade at - The Old Truman Brewery, 91 Brick Lane, London E1 6QL. You can get the underground from Tottenham Court Road just a few minutes from Fopp & Foyles taking the Central Line to Liverpool Street then it's a five minute walk through Spittalfields Market.
It's a rare pleasure to find a record store these days so if you have a morning free then the above shops are a real delight.
Andy
For secondhand classical LPs you could visit Harold Moores In Great Marlborough Street - not cheap though. Otherwise there's Gramex down in Waterloo.

Thats where I used to go, great selection at one time.

Is that still going? I used to frequent it when a student in London in the mid to late 80s
There is also a Music & Video exchange at Greenwich, where I have bought plenty of secondhand CDs, but they have lots of lps too. Around the corner from them is Casbah, which has new lps and CDs.

I regret Harold Moores closed its doors a month or so ago!
ı been in Soho but the prices were quite high...
i can find same things from amazon better priced including shipping to Turkey... 6£-10£ for used CDs??
Nearly everything in London is a ridiculous price. Try buying a beer.
The M&V Exchange gradually reduce their prices until they sell, so plenty of CDs for a few ponds, and at £1 for mainstream artists.
Thanks Lutyens. It has been quite a while since I last visited Harold Moores. It was usually expensive and quite often condition was not the best.

I popped in to M&V yesterday and its still the same , very traditional old record shop with everything crammed in together , a great selection of vinyl and CDs . All seemed to be competitively priced as well . It was nice to see there were lots of customers and most seemed to be looking for vinyl . A minutes walk from Notting Hill Gate tube station , its well worth a visit if you're on the central line or nearby .
FOPP do have a second hand CD section on the first floor (up 1 floor, if from outside UK).
