Upgrade for Uniti2

I have a Uniti2 and I'm itching to upgrade, but unsure what path.

  1. I could buy a power amp (250DR) now and wait to swap out the Uniti2 for a 272.
  2. Wait and save until I could afford the 272/250 together.
  3. Get and NDX now and add replace the U2 with a Supernate later

 

I mostly listen to electronic music and the speakers I have are PMC Twenty5.23

Ice recently gone through this myself. I added a NDX to start. It is an improvement. A $6k improvement? IMO no. I sold the BSX and bought a ND5/XS-2. My second go with a XS-2. I like its sound. Has a mid bass bump compared to the U2. Thought I was good for a while until I was offered a 272/250 combo. I have it now and like it. It is a step or 2 above the previous combo. I also have a XPS DR coming. The 272/250 is more similar to the U2 compared to the XS-2 combo. I like the power the 250 provides. There seems to be more bass. Not that the speakers are playing lower but with more authority. Music also seems more life like compared to U2 and XS. All that being said the U2 is a very good piece of kit and I probably could have saved some cash and kept and just enjoyed the music. I didn't. I bought the 272/250 with XPS to follow and o don't regret it at all. So far it sounds great and I have what I want. I will not be asking the what if question for sometime to come. Very happy with my choice. My advice to you is ask what you want. Do you want to just listen to music and enjoy? If so Tge U2 is tonight to beat. If however, like me, you won't be satisfied until you scratch your upgrade itch I would recommend buying what you want so there is no what if to ask later. You only live once so go ahead and be happy today because tomorrow is not promised. Hope that helps some.

I have the U2 as well but won't be changing it for anything for a while. I'm waiting to hear what the Star and Nova sound like, as well as to see what happens with the streaming side of the N272 and the Uniti digital platform. 

Interesting that Spurrier Sucks still rates the U2, despite moving up to the current 'affordable' system of choice in the Naim range, as I've not seen anyone compare the two until now.

As PB says, stay there waiting for the star and nova while executing your option 2 (saving). When the new unities appear you can judge which alternative is better for you.

I had a Uniti2 and added a 200, then traded the U2 in for a 202 and NDX. But that was in the days before the 272. If I were considering an upgrade from the U2 today in stages, I would first add the 250DR and then swap out the U2 for a 272. If you have the funds of course you could trade your U2 in for the 272/250DR combo.

I am not sure if you can get home demos where you are, but if you can, do so.
