Dlan homeplugs out for good

Posted by: rohan on 27 April 2017

I finally got rid of my homeplugs and hardwired the ethernet to my setup of 272/250dr/xpsdr.

The difference in sq is very obvious now. Much better bass richer sound and expanded soundstage.

Should have done this long back. No more experiments with subwoofers etc.

Phew!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Just enjoy the improvement.

Hi Rohan

I agree, hard wiring really improves the depth and sound stage. . .

I also took it further and "invested" in Audioquest Vodka CAT7 Ethernet cables and improvement was significant, deeper black, more realism and instrument separation.

Enjoy

Good for you... those PLA devices are awful on so many fronts and also don't even work that well from a network point of view.. as far as cabling just regular Cat5e is more than good enough for our uses as you have probably found out...  enjoy your music.

HPNA networking is terrible, not surprised you can hear an audible difference. Aside from the jitter, packet loss, retransmissions and spotty transmission rates, it is sending a high frequency carrier on your home power lines and that is going into all of your equipment and polluting your power. It is absolutely the worst way to network audio.

What happens if the NAS is on the end of the dLan enabled network, i.e. its connection to the router over the mains so it can be wired directly to the player?  I realise that won't do anything about noise unless a dedicated spur is used to power your equipment rather than the ring.

Hi not sure i understand but in my case i had the nas Synology connected directly to the router upstairs but the 272 streamer downstairs connected to the router through dlan hence affected. So in principle i had to avoid dirtying the mains input to naim .

Everything now sounds better the upnp streams, spotify tidal and iradio.

I dont know if keeping sone dlan active on a part of your mains will dirty the power to naim.

Before i decided to wire the house i ran a cat 6 e 30 m cable from the router to the 272 and killed all dlan points it made an immediate difference. I didnt however test with leaving a part of the dlan on upstair connected to my smart tv and dune hd streamer

Perhaps you could test the part I didn't. I figured i had to it onetime across the house and the cost wasnt too bad. 2 gigabit switches 16 and 8 bit from dlink plus 2 linksys ap1200 access points and cable pulled to to 8 terminations . Luckily using old cable tv conduits so no surprises. Total cost gbp 700 of course its much cheaper here in dubai .
