152, 155, 172, XP5XS and 05XS killed off
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 30 April 2017
I see that these five boxes have been discontinued. In many ways the 152 and 155 are not really needed with the integrated amps in the lineup. But losing the 172 seems surprising. And without the XP5 the ND5 has no natural power supply upgrade partner.
And losing the 05xs means that Naim no longer make a stand along tuner. I guess with more and more stations being on internet radio it makes sense, especially given the potential demise of FM for national channels in the U.K.
But it now means that Naim no longer make speakers, don't make arms, have ditched their best CD players, and now no longer make separate tuners. How times change. It makes me quite wistful.

I wonder if there will be given the positive noises on the new Uniti range. There may be more casualties further up the range if these are as good as claimed ?

But the church clock still stands at ten to three. And there is still honey for tea.

Just stick 'The Times They Are A-Changin' on the streamer, have a little sniffle, then move on! Even nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

From speaking to Naim I get the distinct impression that there is nothing new imminent.
I agree - i got that impression too - and products take several years to develop.

Have they ever given anything away in the past?

a bit of truth it that, who forecast the new uniti range coming?
But we did start hearing about the Unitis a year ago and they are still not launched.. so i suspect any significant new products in development are still a year probably a fair bit longer away.

Maybe a repeat of 2002 ?
Thats fifteen (15) years ago and new range was launched in just one week.
They revealed nothing even when rumours were steady and detailed
Soon after the new range were out, replaced many if not all olive boxes
I'm sure they have plenty of amp development going on in complete secret evironment
Thats a good thing
Seems to me every 10 years/ decade majors happen.
Anyway imo as long as they can keep on servicing the large majority of of boxes that they have created. I'll be a happy camper.
no drama at all.

I didnt see it coming. I thought it was a new Aro with Blutooth support.
Or a noise canceller for the humming transformators.
Nice speculations.
Haven't really thought about this before, but is the market for separates dying? Is the "all in one" units the future?

Yes to an extent reflecting a change in lifestyle - people living in smaller properties.

Not sure its that, other than the trend for small speakers - hifi has been a minority interest, with most people I've known selecting all-in-one music systems or just with small separate speakers, even 40 years ago. There is a lifestyle minimalism theme that seems to be gaining in prevalance, however if anyone cares about the quality of music reproduction is hard to see them allowing that to be overridden by such a trend...

Just surfing the topics, and thought I would take a look at Naim products web site!
A very nice job of Streamlining its products!
Cdx2/Cd5xs/Cd5si
555ps/SCDR/XPSDR/HCDR/FC
500/300/300/250
200DR/Nap100
272
NDS.....etc...
A good move, this will ensure that Naim continues to service the Baby Boomers, and their cravings for Black boxes, while continuing to Market the Gen X/Y's.
Hence, tweaking the Snaxo technology to accommodate the Kudos line of Speakers this very moment!
If you think about, Naim still has a lot to Offer!
Dacs/ All in One/ Streamers etc....
Allante93!

Yes but for all old dinosaurs like me will still want 2 racks and 3 miles of wiring the sound quality now available from a Superuniti is way ahead of say a Sansui receiver from 1980.
