Posted by: Johnny5 on 01 May 2017
Just bought pmc twenty5 24 sound amazing but do demo them at home if you can as mine are a bit big for my room size,so has any body got the twenty5 23 as I will be bringing the 24 back.my from size is 15feet by 10 feet.
I auditioned the Twenty5 23s twice but found the treble a little 'hard' for my tastes /system.

Me too.. I think it is a very personal thing. The system I auditioned on was a NDS/Statement system.. but evidently not everyone notices that trait on the Twenty5 series.

What is your system.
272 / 555 DR / 250 DR. I ended up buying the ATC SMC 11s. I tried both the Twenty 5 21s and 23s and whilst they were both revealing and 'exciting' the treble was a real issue for me. The ATCs were every bit as revealing but in a more musically satisfying way.

I have cdx2/xps/ supernait 2 and the 24 sounded super I just could not locate them properly without being in the way.so looks like 25 /23

Did you try a power block / upmarket power cord these can smooth the treble.

I found the 25/21 also had a brittle treble... perhaps they use different drivers in the 25/24 or perhaps are simply better suited to the Supernait? Main thing of course is that they sound fab for you. Interesting I also stayed with ATC, the SCM19s in my case.

i agree it is a personal thing, I trialled a few speakers and settled with the twenty5 23's because even thou they were a little bright I suspected that they would soften when 'run in'. Nine months later I am very pleased with the overall sound & performance, nice pace and really nicely controlled bass....having read so much about the ATC's on here I wish I had trialled them also...however, as before I am very pleased with the 23's...
Hi Johnny5,
I bought the Twenty5.23's last year, and I've really found them great, admittedly stepping up quite a way from what was there before them.
I have SN2/XPS DR + NDX combo. my room is lot smaller than yours at maybe 6 x 6m, but I don't suffer (to my ears) with treble issues as others mention. Maybe my ears aren't quite so discerning, but the kit and the room interface do/ can make a big difference.
I had them for a month on demo from my kind dealer so I was absolutely sure when I placed the order that they were for me.
See if you can get them on loan from your dealer to be sure? If you liked the .24s, just a bit overpower for your room, the .23's will do the job for you for sure.
Good luck, and be sure to report back!

Hi my room ls 6/4m I put wrong measurement on first mail so the 24 are not breathing enough in this space but my dealer will take them back thank God.
Very happy with my Twenty5.23 -- not really fuzzy to place, and I believe also much easier to drive than the 24. I hope they work for you as well!!

I use Naim power lines and plug direct into a double wall socket that is on a dedicated spur. Never had the issue with either the ATCs or Neat Iotas so I guess I just don't get on with the tweeter in the Twenty5 series. There are many others that that like the lively presentation though and if it works for you all is good.
I currently have the PMC twenty5 24s on home demo (paired with a Supernait 2). They sound great but a little overpowering for the room physically and also that the room is limiting their undoubted qualities a bit. I'm also slightly concerned about the bass being a bit too much for the neighbour as to get the best out of them (to my ears), I have found that you have to turn it up a bit. I also tried the twenty5 23s at home but thought that they were rather underwhelming, particularly detail from the mids. The dealer also commented that they were underwelmed by the 23s - perhaps they are a duff pair?!? The 22s which I also had on home demo were excellent, similar to the 24s (perhaps a touch less 'rich' or 'lush') but less physically imposing and a less intense (but still satisfying) bass. Have you tried these?
I return the 24s tomorrow. They are the higher quality speaker, but my situation suggests the 22s could be a wiser choice. That being said, I may look at the ATC SCM 19 before I pull the trigger as these seem to get good feedback.
Yes the 24 a bit to powerful but since got the 25..23 I have to say brilliant they fit the space perfect and mid treble bass all married extremely well.
That's interesting, I didn't think that the bass married well on the 23's at all, neither in the shop or at home - it seemed separate and unmatched to the mids. I do wonder whether the pair I tried were duff...
It all depends on the acoustics of the room one set be good in shop when at home different story. But best have home demo if possible for 25/24.
