Importing WAV files Uniticore

Posted by: DUPREE on 06 May 2017

I have a large amount of music ripped in .WAV file format. Is there anyway to get the Uniti Core to understand Genre information or to be able to separate rock from jazz from classical etc. I know you need to put each album in a folder with the artists name and each album needs the .jpg of the album art. Is there any further ability to tweek what it views as the metadata. I am getting confused trying to figure out how to best organize this.

I use Metadatics, on a MacBook. You can add any genre you like. For example my wife's (relatively few) cds use her name as a genre, for easy selection.

You need to place all imported files, irrespective of their format, into a DOWNLOADS folder.

As to metadata - if files are tagged correctly, Core will read what's available.

Well, to an extent......

You can tag the WAV files (or any other format) away to your heart's desire and have them quite extensively field populated....But, if the Core is anything like like the US (which I believe it is) it will only use and serve up the top 4 or 5 tag fields i.e Artist Name, Album Name, Track Name, Genre ......Forget all the others, especially the genuinely useful ones like Album Artist, Disc Number, File Type, Sample rate, etc (not to mention Composers and Conductors for those long suffering Classical fans!).......The 'extra' tags can all be present and correct and embedded in the files, but if playing via the Core/US UpNP then they can't be utilised and play their part in browsing and sorting all your music......Which I guess is fine if all your albums are by single artists on 1 disc and you don't want to browse your Hi-res versions separately to the CD rip etc etc etc........

Of course, you can 'append' any desired extra info into the tag fields that are utilised by the Core/US e.g Track Name, but personally I don't find this particularly elegant and, really, it's a fairly ugly workaround......

Very true. In addition some of the data which does appear on n-Serve - like date - can't be searched by the Naim app.

Guys imagine...they made "reference" server who cannot read any genre tags from my properly tagged collection....do i really need to rip all albums to simply recognise genre...i have no computer browsing ability on core so this genre is mandatory for me cuz i dont want my all music mixed up togeather...someome please tell me im wrong and that in 21st century i can import all music from usb external hard drive and that Core will recognise all Genre tags in my collection...i bought Core at beggining of the year and waited 4 months for Naim to finish app for android (wasnt warned by the dealer), could not operate it at all and waited till now in belief that they will finish this redicolous "problem" and make this core a product...how can any release halfproduct...not as advertized...somebody tell me im wrong or i will be forced to sell this halfproduct for cheap...

You can edit the Genre field via the Naim App, either accepting the default look-ups or choosing/editing your own....I"m not 100% sure what happens if the genre tag is already user embedded in the file, whether it does indeed pick it up....Previous user edits from Naim US/HDX etc are retained now, which would included genre....

There's a little more info re metadata in a white paper Naim have added to the Uniti Support Simulator post.

Other than that, unfortunately, you're not wrong.....

You are mixing at least 3 issues here. None of them related to each other.

As I wrote - if your files are tagged correctly, Core will read the metadata, including genre, artist, songs etc etc.

Importing files is easy. Not sure why this angry comment,

Core is a  new product. It's only now coming onto a market. Blame your dealer who missold you the product and did not tell you the Android app is not ready.

Adam first of all tnx for fast response

My angry comment is because they did not warned dealer also and they should finish app for android in two weeks after, i tried machine with my friends iphone and sound was much better than on my computer so i said what the heck i will wait for 2 weeks and bought it....but good folks from naim had cancelled its release i stop to counting to...they finally released it after four months of waiting and frustration without possibilitty to use genre, so sorry but for me core isnt such a new product...and more frustration came from waiting firmware for genre till now and it does not read genre tag which i taged properly, as artists and albums and only genre does not work so you will excuse me for losing patience...so if you have anything to propose than blaming my dealer i would be much more greatful

From the Core metadata .pdf

'Genre Handling

Uniti Core uses Rovi genres. However, if a genre has been imported with legacy data then this can be chosen by choosing the ‘Legacy’ tab.

For any tab the user can add a new genre or delete the genre applied to that album. This feature is located by scrolling to the bottom of the screen.'

I am not importing from CD's, these are existing high-res .WAV files, I thought .WAV could not have embeded metadata? Also where can one find this metadata.pdf ?

Thanks,

Could you possibly send me a sample of your WAV file by email? I'd like to check the metadata on it, test in on my servers. If there is a porblem i.e. Metadata is fine, but Core does not 'read it' I will immediately report it on the Naim Beta forum.

My email is in my profile.

Thanks,

No problem to embed metadata in WAV files, dbPoweramp et al will do it fine.....It's Naim's choice to do it another way (with their Rips) with the external text file etc......Debates exist as to whether there's a SQ difference between the two methods....

The 'White Paper' re metadata is available if you keyword search for metadata in the Uniti Support Simulator (who came up with that name!?).

Hope that helps.

I think a polite cough and raised eyebrow is allowed at this point
