Chord 2 Qute and 282/200 amp?

Posted by: Bob the Builder on 08 May 2017

I have read lots of previous threads about the 2Qute on this forum and it is a dac that seems to divide opinion especially when paired with 202, 282 & 252 due to their high sensitivity and the 2Qute having a 3v output. Has anyone been able to overcome the senstivity issues and had any success with the Qute into classic series Nac's?

Great to hear that you are enjoying your new DAC. This gets me rather intrigued. Pity that the next Chord dealer is not exactly close to where we live -- a sort of hifi blackhole... But shall make a trip when the next Saturday is free. Compared to the ND5 DAC, do you only see upsides with the new 2Qute, or any downside? Well, apart from the expensiture...

Cheers from the Lakes (until tomorrow)!

Well I'm very, very happy with the Chord 2Qute so far,  sensitivity was not an issue at all and is less of an issue than with my analogue set up. I would say infact the 2 Qute 3v into 75mv Nac 282 issue made so much of in some threads was a complete non issue for me at least and the 2Qute is sounding rather good even with the Flashback bnc/bnc and Chord Crimson phono/din cables I had lying around, listening to Tidal at the moment and it sounds a lot better than the bare ND5XS. Having never heard a Hugo I cannot comment on which is better but if the 2Qute is 'flat' compared to it then it must be a fine machine indeed but for the same cost on the used market the Chord 2Qute has no battery issues and is well, well worth a listen if you are after a Dac.

To be fair the ND5 isn't even close in SQ to NDX and should be completely outclassed by any of the current crop of Chord DACs. You might be surprised by the the improvement you'd get moving to a Hugo.

Why not get a s/h Mojo to try out at no financial risk? You can sell it on if you don't like it or move to Hugo later if you want. I got a Mojo for my NDX recently and it is just incredible vfm. I put the money saved towards a s/h Hicap DR for the double whammy.
