My New House
Posted by: Holmes on 10 May 2017
I'm posting this in the Music room because its all about the music and looking at the categories I couldn't see a better place. Mod's move it if you like.
I'm an architect. I'm about to design a piece of architecture to live in, for my family. To call it a house would be the equivalent of asking 1000 people how they listen to music and deciding that's how to listen to music. So bear with me.
My aim is to put my balls on the line rather than make a sensible investment in terms of housing and I'm looking to define myself as an artist as much as what people call architects, I see micro niches are where it's at and I have a potentially one off opportunity to do that which done right, will lead to others folk liking my approach...
So here's the question I'm asking my kids, what's important? They quickly come back with stuff i wouldn't have thought of - hence the post - So in this forum it relates to the quality of a space to listen to music in. There are no parameters, i.e. 3 storey volumes are on the cards as I'm looking at land on a hill and will be thinking of volumes rather than rooms. -WHATS IMPORTANT for listen to say 272-200
I have to be able to see the mountains on the horizon and have hills at my back. I love this city. The image below is a couple of hundred metres higher up but you should get the idea.
There is a budget which is tight, but here in Christchurch where we have earthquake damaged and land which needs improvement before building a traditional house on. I am hoping to leverage ground improvement costs against the creation of additional volume, to get the drama I'm after. If the site I have in mind doesn't work out, then I'll be higher up the hill with potentially steeper slopes and for me - more drama...
