This post should've referred to the High End show in Munich this week. Apologies.

Dynaudio is also debuting a "special 40" at the same show.

Kudos is following an evolutionary development model.

Ovators were designed from scratch and completely different from the speakers they developed before.

... and Naim is known to be very conservative and slow ...

I like that.

I "have it on good authority" that they will indeed be essentially the same size as S20s, just a few mm in it. Really looking forward to comparing them with 707s.

This could be interesting.  The S20 was essentially the best mid-sized, floorstanding speaker that Kudos could make with the drivers that came from/derived from those used in the Titan T88.

So, if the 606 is about the same size as the S20 and uses similar drivers, then the price should be ... probably more.

It will be interesting to learn about what makes the 606 considerably more capable than the S20, other than the bevelled side panels.

Best regards from a curious FT

Isobaric bass loading maybe like its bigger brothers otherwise it's just an S20 in a party dress. Looking forward to seeing more pics and hearing first impressions

Maybe so, but the S20 still represents tremendous value IMHO, given its rather exceptional performance. The only thing that lets down the S20 (again my opinion) is its looks, being a flat sided and topped box. Hence the T-606 may address that shortcoming and be the new giant killer. Who knows?!

Size and pics already on the Kudos Audio website

T-606 - 950mm (h) x 256mm (w) x 320mm (d) / 35kgs

S20A - 925mm (h) x 200mm (w) x 270mm (d) / 22 kgs

Not a big difference in height but 56mm wider and 50mm deeper (approximately a 25% increase) adds up.

The website says they are isobarik bass ported, so I imagine this means they have a rear facing port. As the bottom slopes, maybe the port could go there. It's a shame they are not sealed, as then they could go nearer to walls. I wonder what the price will be. £8,000?

Where abouts on the website (apart from the Munich debut on the news page) did you find that info King Size ?

Posted on: 16 May 2017 by hungryhalibut

Just go to the products page. That's where I read about the bass loading.

I can only see the 808 - I'll find my Laptop and take a look as my old IPad is struggling with the Kudos site !

Eye of the beholder and all that - I think the Super 20s are classic and absolutely stunning -  from the limited views available so far, the T-606 not so much

Now on the laptop and found the details  . I presume the port vents between bass and the lower sloped section of the cabinet so not a true rear ported speaker. Anyway looks good and hopefully the price is the right side of £10k...

Just seen the 606 and 707 on the Kudos website via my iPad.

I heard the 707 at the Bristol show and was rather impressed (especially when I persuaded the Kudos guy to put some Yello on the LP12 they had running).

The 606 is likely to be a little more 'real world' than it's bigger brothers even though the price is still likely to be, well, not cheap. What is particularly interesting is the possibility to now go Naim active with these 'speakers, even with the 'humble' 250DR x 2. Even more enticing if you already have one 250DR as many of us now do. The problem of course is having to double up on SL speaker wires and additional SL ICs.

Anyway, I guess we should see how the Titan 606 performs in passive mode first before thinking about the active option.

It's rather odd that Naim are designing active crossovers to use with Kudos, with Kudos using crossovers that can be used as active without modifications, yet the recent Focal Sopras cannot be used active, despite the partnership with Naim. It's just a shame that you need to add at least three boxes to go active. I'd love to see active cards that would fit in a Naim preamp, thereby cutting out the snaxo and power supply. But without doubt the flexibility has got to be good.

You would have expected that Naim and Focal would have had the 'active' discussion and my understanding is that Focal have little interest in this direction although I am happy to be corrected on this point. I also assume that Focal must have given their agreement for Naim to develop active options with another 'speaker manufacturer, or at least have agreed to turn a blind eye.

Yes, it would be nice if it were possible to go Naim active without the need to add extra black boxes but I guess this is against their active design philosopy.

Well Focal have their own range of (powered) active speakers.

In my opinion it has been clear from the start that the marriage of Naim and Focal was based on mutual financial interest rather than affinity in their respective ideas about audio reproduction.  Certainly this would extend to the topic of active loudspeakers. I have never heard a pair of Focal speakers, but after a few months with the highly regarded Focal Utopia headphones, my reaction is "never the twain shall meet."

Well that might explain the disinterest in Focal cooperating with Naim over active speakers, although I expect Focal powered active speakers are far higher up the food chain.
