Munich High End 2017
Posted by: Bert Schurink on 17 May 2017
I am getting more and more excited for the coming high end in Munich. I will definitely go there on Sunday and might even consider to go there on Saturday, as one day is often to short.
Things I am going to have a serious look at are:
- the new Astell & Kern players the Kann and the Ultimate
- the focal headphones
- make a 2nd comparison between my Shure 846 and KSE1500 earphones
.....and much more.
Anybody who wants me to have a special look at something, please let me know I am happy to have my eyes and ears open for you. Obviously I will also write a report on what I saw and heard...
Quite funny I will have a room acoustics expert in the house on Friday, so I will have something additional to enjoy....
A new kind of hifi.....

An amazing setup of Burmeisters, speakers not yet on the market. I got goosebumps when they played a special version of Fever of Elvis Presley...

A special setup. It was sounding good, while I was not blown away...

The sound was way beyond bad! It is not possible that these speakers sound so bad.
Room acoustics, speaker positioning, other factors, i don't know. There was no bass whatsover, and the rest was bland.

Rui
I believe that's the M40.2 that you listened to. Did you manage to listen to the smaller Harbeth (M30.2)?

See the Harbeth thread, they weren't playing.
The one part of the Naim / Focal Demo partition was about the new focal speakers with the usual suspect from a black box perspective. Not so sexy and exciting, I still don't like the Focals.......

The other parts was of course the new Uniti proposition. A lot of music for an acceptable price. I liked it and heard a big difference even between the entry level and the step up.....

As always a very enjoyable session with the MD of Fone Records at the MBL stand in which he takes us through his last recordings, with the usual Italian touch..

Another interesting presentation was from the cello player of the Concerto Köln who took us through the works of Vivaldi, based on the recordings made, but also by playing some solo cello himself. Also at the MBL stand. Both demos have been played on a modest system of only 394K euros....
Quite normal an expensive car at the show, with of course a nice audio system inside....., while I ask myself why an audio system with such a car......

The AVM and Gauder Akustik setup, impressive sound as always competing in the top 3 for the best sound of the show...

I was intrigued by the strange design of the speakers, but unfortunately didn't hear them....

This is a picture of the Audionet setup with Gauder Akustik speakers. An impressive warm sound. Provided by their "statement" amplification called Heisenberg...

I apologize to all who asked me for a review of something I didn't provide. Unfortunately it happened quite often that the demo would start again in 20 minutes, and i couldn't afford to wait as i would miss key other things I wanted to hear. Another limiting factor was that the show on Sunday only was on for 6 hours, they cut out the last two hours, which is a huge pity......
Overall i had a lot of fun to listen to system I couldn't afford, items which i am not considering for buying.......
A great show, recommended for all to visit the next time....

I'm not certain if that sounds good or not!

It did - great sound, I preferred it over the Burmeister system and it competes with the AVM setup on a similar level, while I would say the Audionet seemed to have even more control.....

I think that if you know how loud it is you can't be sure what song it's playing or vice versa.

Bert - I have enjoyed your review of the Munich Hifi Show. If you ask this forum what they would like you to see (hear) for them you will inevitably be inundated. I have to admit I joined in the requests. The most important thing is you enjoyed the show and have informed this fine forum at the same time. Good job!

Nice Pictures Bert!
Just curious, what was the Statement paired with!
Previous years:
"However, first up were Naim to tell us about what they have been up to. Needless to say everyone remembers last year’s launch of the gargantuan Naim Statement amp and pre of last year (who could forget such a statement of intent) but this year at High End Munich show their announcement was equally interesting, if not as overwhelmingly impressive!
In a nutshell the trickle down tech from the Statement will now go into the NAP 200DR, 250 DR, 300 DR and 500 DR with prices ranging from £1662.50 to £16250 and owners of the older versions...."
Please don't tell me Focal, and Naim, its British partner didn't display the Statement!
Allante93!

It's not about loud, something all these expensive system can do in a decent manner. It's the way they control the sound.

Allante93!
I think I remember I saw a statement, but just as a piece of furniture not connected to anything to make it sound.
I'm glad I didn't drive for six/seven hours to see the same thing I saw (and heard) in 2012. Audio shows cannot be taken seriously unless one is a pro, I think. The only people who look like they're actually interested in something are those with pointed shoes and the looks of night-club owners, who go around room to room smelling money with ears open. The rest, I fear, is just a different Sunday for middle aged w@nkers like most of us.
A serene, smiling opinion only.

Sorry Bert ... I think you missed the joke about / around its name!
Indeed, Statement was partnered with dust it was collecting. Perhaps there is such a long waiting list there was no need to promote it?

I used to think they were a quantim leap forwards, but now I'm not so certain.
