Munich High End 2017
Posted by: Bert Schurink on 17 May 2017
I am getting more and more excited for the coming high end in Munich. I will definitely go there on Sunday and might even consider to go there on Saturday, as one day is often to short.
Things I am going to have a serious look at are:
- the new Astell & Kern players the Kann and the Ultimate
- the focal headphones
- make a 2nd comparison between my Shure 846 and KSE1500 earphones
.....and much more.
Anybody who wants me to have a special look at something, please let me know I am happy to have my eyes and ears open for you. Obviously I will also write a report on what I saw and heard...
Quite funny I will have a room acoustics expert in the house on Friday, so I will have something additional to enjoy....

I'm not certain if that sounds good or not!
I think that if you know how loud it is you can't be sure what song it's playing or vice versa.
It's not about loud, something all these expensive system can do in a decent manner. It's the way they control the sound.
Sorry Bert ... I think you missed the joke about / around its name!
I used to think they were a quantim leap forwards, but now I'm not so certain.
Al: Ziggy says you may need to get Bert to just buy Naim to be able to leap! But there's only a 75% chance of that being why you're here!
(with not much apology for the bad jokes, cultural references and puns taking up the thread!)
Very surprising to read those thoughts about the Focal & Naim room...
For me, the new Focal utopia III evo with Naim system was among the best sound in the show.
In my opinion, the Kudos/ Naim room was a bit disappointment.
Regards,

In a way I might have...
Walter White first came up with the street name "Heisenberg" in his Season 1 meeting with Tuco. It's a reference to German physicist Werner Heisenberg, famous for his "uncertainty principle" which states that the exact position and momentum of a particle cannot be simultaneously known.
On one level, the choice of Heisenberg as Walt's pseudonym is an inside joke for fans who remember the uncertainty principle from high school chemistry.
On a deeper level, the name symbolizes Walt's stunning transition
from meek chemistry teacher to Scarface-in-training drug lord. When Walt puts on his black porkpie hat and trenchcoat and becomes Heisenberg, he's able to commit hideously gruesome acts that regular Walt would never be capable of. It's a form of psychological compartmentalization that lets Walt distance himself from his evil acts and convince himself he's still a good person.
Walt can therefore be viewed as a human manifestation of the "uncertainty principle" -- as he gains momentum as a murderous drug lord, he loses sight of his original position as a family man with a strong moral code. The exact moment when Walt truly becomes evil is debatable or "uncertain" -- one of the things that makes Breaking Bad such a great show.

I have never been a fan of the Focal speakers. Even when years ago the Statement was firing the big Focal's I was not totally satisfied. But it's a good thing that opinions differ....means we keep competition in the market...

Ok, I get it, but Focal was displaying its oversized expensive speakers to promote its entry level.
Google Naim 2017 Munich, you get the Naim Forum.
Google Focal 2017 Munich:
"Focal and its British partner Naim Audio will together exhibit a large selection of products to satisfy the thousands of audio visual fans who visit the MOC Munich.
Our high-fidelity headphones collection, composed of Utopia, Elear and Listen, will be on display.
In addition you will find the Sopra line, the Aria 906 & 948 and Chorus 726 & 706 hi-fi speakers, the SUB 1000 F subwoofer, Dôme Flax satellites and the Dimension soundbar at our booth.
[Finally, the iconic Grande Utopia EM will be exhibited featuring a very special finish!]
On their side, Naim Audio will be displaying their new line of Uniti all-in-one players, DR power amplifiers and Mu-So and Mu-So Qb wireless music systems.
Visitors will also be invited to listen to two high-end high-fidelity systems:
- Aria 926 speakers driven by Naim Audio Uniti Atom
- Sopra N°2 will be driven by Uniti Nova
You will have the opportunity to compete on our booth and win an all-in-one Mu-so Qb system by Naim or an Elear, one of the latest Focal audiophile headphones."
Is it just me!

"The Focal Grande Utopia EM models are some of the most famous ultra-high-end loudspeakers produced in recent years. This is due in part to the unit’s iconic accordion shape, which allows for exact tuning to the listener's room. The French company's design incorporates cutting-edge technology in the form of an electromagnet in the 16-inch woofer that applies an estimated 1.75 teslas of magnetic force with extreme precision—enhancing the loudspeakers’ famously exceptional bass reproduction. The speakers retail for $180,000 and are available from Focal dealers worldwide."
sunbeamgls posted:No. Went intonthe Naim partitioned area. Waited for 5 mins or so but no music playing. The show is too big to waste time waiting for someone to be bothered to put some music on.
The best rooms were those where the exhibitor had built false walls to create an ante room so that music could play in the main part and chat could happen in the ante room. Naim had a huge static display area where chat could take place but still the dem room was music free
On a more positive note, Constellation launched the Leo which is a larger competitor to the Muso but sounds 'impressive' rather than tuneful.
Hi,
The Atom, Star and Nova in the main area should all have been playing through headphones (I spent most of my time there making sure that they all were playing something for those people just wandering through), Oliver spent most of his time in with the Mu-so and 4 x Qb's in the Mu-so area so they should have been playing (except when they were trying to run specific demos in the demo area) and the Nova and Atom in the demo room were running demos for all four days so if there was nothing at all playing anywhere I'm very surprised.

I'd have liked to have seen a bit of pearlescent or metal flake in that finish but I didn't object to it - the British Racing Green Maestro was nice and the "flip" Sopra was too! :-D

Ok, I get it, Naim Forum!
I think Lawrence Dickie's Vivid GT3's are hard on the eyes!
But soft & sweet, on the ears.
Point being, if I was a High End Speaker Manufacture, and partnered with an High End Electronic Manufacture, which sourced my main stream line of products, I would want to leave a lasting impression.
Example:
Wow! What did think about that Statement driving those Grande Utopias!
Great in my next life, but the ....
- Aria 926 speakers driven by Naim Audio Uniti Atom
- Sopra N°2 will be driven by Uniti Nova
Is a nice VFM, putting my order in tomorrow!
Or is it just me!

Bert Schurink posted:Quite normal an expensive car at the show, with of course a nice audio system inside....., while I ask myself why an audio system with such a car......
Actually Veyron has not a very nice sound, just a pretty industrial bass note.
However at Villa D'Este Councours D'Elegance, last year, our ears was delighted by this

I'm quite sure Mr Richard Vandersteen would not be interested in chewing on any Sopra speakers when he has his own tasty models to satisfy his hunger!

"Audionet Heisenberg amplifier, Stern preamplifier, PAM G2 phonostage
Audionet of Germany brought forth a pair of late-stage prototype Heisenberg monoblocks ($105k/pr.) alongside a Stern preamp ($45k) and a PAM G2 phonostage ($20,200 with optional EPX power supply) in a sizzling-hot demo driving YG Acoustics Sonja XV speakers ($265,900/pr."

The Age Of Technology, just googled Heisenberg Amp.
Now, at those prices, I doubt they are on back-order status.
But who knows, perhaps someone may have been persuaded to put in an order in their mid level Range!
The 700 watt Statement gathering dust, whilst the 540 watt Heisenberg mono blocks were displaying the SQ of their Technologies!
