Upgrade itch views on next step........

Posted by: Matthew Johns on 20 May 2017

hi all,

got that upgrade itch again, pondering what would give best value for money or biggest impact for current set up, or pointers (one thing cannot do at this time is dedicated mains for setup at this time unfortunately )

1/ upgrade to 2x power lines and possibly power bar with it maybe the Nordost QB8 or something like it

2/ put hi cap DR on the SN2 with 2x chord signature leads

3/ add naim dac and use the ndx as a transport (would need a bnc-bnc lead to so thoughts on which good to match setup)

4/ upgrade speakers to kudos c20s

5/ go the Hugo2 or hugo TT route and use ndx as transport (would need to have my chord Sarum modded and a digital lead, so by far the most expensive option)

Council as always very much appreciated and only able to demo option 2, 4 and 5 at my local dealer

thanks again

Trade NDX for an NDS?

Alternatively, try option 5 to see if you like it.  If so, sell the XPS-DR to fund a lot of it.

Providing you are happy with your speakers and  SN2 is driving them properly then I would wait and audition Hugo 2. Could be just the magic your digital music needs. You might have a long wait though as Chord have stated initial demand is high. I pre-ordered mine in Feb. With a little bit of luck it might arrive next week. I'm currently using a V1 that I purchased second hand. I previously had Hugo TT but sold it to finance Hugo 2 (my thinking was that used prices would drop once Hugo 2 was available). V1 is very good but I do miss the Hugo TT.

Can't speak to the chord leads, but I ultimately didn't like a HCDR on my SN2. Hi-fi and an immediate wow/speed factor for sure, but not good for my long-term listening. The forum seems divided on the value of the HCDR on SN2, so I'd suggest a good, long demo with it before going that route. It's all room, user, ears dependent, and not something I'd consider the no-brainer many might indicate.
