LP 12 - Audiotech wall frame - platform fitting

I recently carried out some 'frame maintenance' because the sound was going 'off' slightly. Removed the player and checked tightness of fittings (they were all good), got the platform sitting nicely on the spikes and pushed down to make a set of nice new holes. Replaced the deck and listened - the sound was now worse than before. Flat, lifeless, stiff and with a distinctly cuppy coloration spoiling the stereo image.

I've had the player long enough and received posts suggesting the problem of 'micro-rattle' with four-point 'spiked' platforms (which I believe is a real possibility) and also pierced holes 'degrading ' with time. A simple readjustment to the frame transformed the sound for the better: with the deck removed, I wound down the front right spike (the easiest one to reach) by 1/8th of a turn. I cannot feal any difference in how the platform sits on it's spikes.

I do think that I may have eliminated 'micro-rattle' by doing this, but also I believe something else may by going on as well: when the player is placed on the frame, the platform will be stressed because it is firmly held in place by the spikes. I think winding a spike down slightly has prevented the platform from becoming unnecessarily over-tensioned and is more stable as a result. I think of an analogy: trying to fit a piece of paper into an envelope that's a fraction too small - the paper 'buckles' awkwardly.

System is LP 12, Llingo, Ekos, Keel, DV xx2 , Naim 82 , Supercap, HiCap, Naim headphone amp and Sennheiser 650s. Audiotech frame with 'Tiger Paw' thin platform.
