NAS drive query

Hi, what's showing in my QNap TS212P NAS drive at folder level seems to be different to what I see in Minimserver. I've tried refreshing Minimserver, but it doesn't seem to fix it. Can anyone tell me why this might be? Could the two drives on the NAS be picking up different things? And if so, how to I sync them onto one drive? (I've tried posting this on the QNap forum, but have had no replies). Also, I might need to get someone in to look at my system and check everything out to make sure I'm ripping and backing up correctly. Does anyone know someone in the Greater London UK area? Thanks

Robert, there are a number of "streaming literate" Naim dealers in and around London.  Take your pick. Beyond that, I must be mindful of forum rules...

Servers like Minim generally see metadata tags rather than files and folders, although there is also a folder view option. I'm guessing that this might explain the differences you are seeing?

The Minim website would be a better place to post queries than QNAP's. The author is usually very good at responding to support questions.

Find an album in your Qnap and see what folder it's in - say the folder is called banana. Then find it in Minim and see what the band is - say it's apple. Then go back to the Qnap and check the band name in the metadata - it will be apple.

I always select folder view in the minim server browser in the naim app. This avoids losing albums from view that either have no tagged title/artist.

I've never liked folder view. If I want to hear a jazz singer I simply use the genre jazz vocal. It does rely on good metadata, but if one gets into the habit of getting the metadata spot on every time a new album is added, it's easy. It then allows a simple artist/album folder structure. But each to their own, of course.

Metadata rules! With a sizeable collection and a memory that's increasingly on the blink it's a godsend. For example, a nice Naim dealer played me a jazz piano CD to demonstrate the aceness of the NAC82 over the 72.

I'm  forever forgetting the artist's name though, and quite genuinely I can't recall it now. In the old days (and if I relied on folder view) I'd be stuffed until such time a few neutrons collided felicitously.

And it's David Newton (Return Journey, Linn label, dead good).

And yes, by next year I'll have forgotten it again
