Length requirement for 3rd party speaker cable (Sarum, SLumina)

Posted by: glevethan on 24 May 2017

Naim has always had a suggested minimum requirement of 5m runs for NACA 5 speaker cable. It has also always been recommended that both left and right lengths remain equal.

For 3rd party speaker cables - Sarum, Vertere, Super Lumina etc. does the 5m minimum length requirement remain?

What about the idea of unequal lengths between the left and the right or should they both remain the same?

NACA was made specifically for Naim amps, save Statement series.

Yes I know that,  but you're missing the point,  Naim don't make cable,  they might design, specify & have the various part made as an assembly, or just sell it off the reel.

5.5m is optimum for NACA5.

Internet conjecture.

Naim has never stated what length is ideal in print, just what the minimum length is recommended, which is 3.5 meters by the way.  One of the moderators made reference to what length sounded ideal, but I'm pretty sure Naim has never publically made claim which length was ideal.

Exactly.  I know which moderator made the comment - as such I do not write off his observations as "internet conjecture" but rather valuable information from someone with a pair of golden ears and long experience with the brand

Mike-B,

I know what you meant, that's the problem with internet forums, no face to face communication, I was trying to put the point across that the amps and the cable were made in conjunction to work together so as not to cause instability problems with the amps.

The problem with your observation is that it's somebody's else opinion and not a fact, my ears tell me different, so I go with that instead of what someone's else's "golden ears" say!!!

Come On guys get realistic,  Naim might or might not assemble the SL,  so what,  they don't make NACA5 either.

Ok, we all know, this is a Naim Forum!

We have cover every thread, 20 times or more!

Just think Julian came up with this Great Idea, based on a little piece of wire, inductance....

Linn K20 ~ Nac A4 > Court Case> Nac A5

Which came first, the little wire incorporated within the Amp, or NAC A5?

The same A5, Which enabled the 500 Club to rock their SL2s, DBLs, Titans, and Ovators, while the rest of the industry was focus on fancy expensive posh speaker cables!

       THEN CAME THE STATEMENT!

Now, I'm not sure, but I would take a guess, that little wire wasn't incorporated within the Statement Mono Blocks!

@ the OP, use you Golden Ears and decide Which INTERCONNECT you prefer.

Music, SL, Vertere, or your Sarum TA, and Chase the Loom!

Or, go with the Statement, and 1 Meter of Speaker Cable! LOL

Looked at your profile, I don't have an tenth of your hands on Experience!

JMHO!

OP here

I already have used my "golden ears"

My interconnects were Sarum TA- moved on to Sarum Super - and I have been using Chord Music since this past fall (on both Urika and KDS/3). I started with Sarum during the "break in" phase of its development.

The whole point of this thread, as evidenced by the title, was to investigate speaker cable to replace good old trusty NACA5.

At current prices of something like Sarum T - NACA5 remains extremely tasty and appetizing.  10 meters at 1800= 18,000

Perhaps now you can understand my apprehension - and the reason for starting this thread.

PS  JMHO??

actually, the problem with SL speaker wire is that its not expensive enough.

so i think i will go for Nordost Valhala 2 at c. £19,700 for a 6m pair. That is c. £1640/m

any one got any other suggestions for stratospheric speaker cables?

mind you £32/m is not exactly a give away price...

enjoy

ken

Thanks for the heads- up on this Ken, I'm convinced it'll be the stuff That'll work a bit better than my NACA5. I'll need 3x9m pairs so I guess £88, 650.00p. Kerchiiinnng!

I get it, didn't know you had tried the Ultimate Taylon!

Not being as experienced as yourself, going out on a limb, and assuming, Music is your preference.

Hence, that weak link has been addressed, which leads you to the next weakest link.

In your case, the Final link!

Length requirement for 3rd party speaker cable (Sarum, SLumina)

Didn't notice the Music in your profile!

Point being, if you like the Music, one would assume an affinity, towards Chords Reference Speaker Cable.

Note, here in the States we don't have the the luxury of demoing the SL Speaker Cable!

At least not in the Detroit Metropolitan Area!

Heck of System you got!

Enjoy your MUSIC!

Couldn't resist the pun!

Here in the States our ability to demo is severely limited compared to our UK counterparts (I too am US based).  Luckily I have one of the top dealers taking care of me (he is not US based) and his service is so good that it often feels like he is only a few hours away rather than an ocean away.

Yes - I do have an affinity for Chord cables - I think you will find that many others on the forum share that affinity

Detroit - spent quite a bit if time there - Southfield and Bloomfield Hills.  Quite a number of relatives there in the Motor City
