Just said yes to a 552...............
Good shout on the 552. Now if you could just change those speakers......

then what's the problem?
Buyers remorse.........

That will soon pass once you hear the 552 or so we're told.
Anyway, your avatar seems to be smiling ![]()
So long as you can afford an NDS, to DR the amplifier, and buy some better speakers and a new rack, the 552 makes sense. If you can't, a more balanced approach to upgrading might make more sense.
You won't regret it.
once you get over the buyers remorse that is.
Negative. Always said if I saw a bargain 552 I would snap one up. And it's dr. Was going to get my supercap drd so that money gone towards this. No more pre amps.
Think it makes the ndx sound rather rather good. Yes source is next on the list but was too much of a steal. Right place right time etc etc
Maxed out my vinyl also. That's quite a decent source tbh

if you can change and improve your amp and speakers, there is no problem. If not, you will perhaps do it in the future, so no problem. But the 552 definitely in your system, without upgrading the amp and speakers, would be a problem : better have more coherency between elements, like 252/300 or 252/250 or 552/500 or 300....
I suggest you get off the forum and enjoy your 552. There will always be some who will try to work on any hint of buyers remorse. You got a good deal on the 552 which was in your plan, the 552 is the best pre money can buy in the context of a classic system, you have a plan for the digital source and you have a very decent vinyl source.
Enjoy the music and bu**er what we think.
Congrats and good move...I'm a firm believer that a 552 raises all ships. The 250.2 will be just fine. The Stageline , on the other hand, may not be up to it?

Problem of plentitude...

the 250 will be fine but not the stageline ? you are serious?
Of course the 552/250.2 will be fine...In fact, I believe our esteemed moderator has just this combination in his lounge ! Not sure why all the negative feelings about the 250.2 around here, I find it a very nice amp.
The Stageline, imo, is quite average in the world of phono stages. Just how I feel about it..

i never said the 250 is not fabulous. In some aspects i preferred it even to my nap 300. I just wanted to point the need of coherency in a system : i would prefer to have ndx/ 252/ 250 than nd5 / 112/ 500, for just an example. But if the 500 is just the first stage to move after some time to 252 or 552 with it and ndx or better after, i understand.
My 2p: Take your time and enjoy the 552 through speakers you know well, and like, presumably -- you will like them better than ever. The difference the preamp alone makes deserves to be savored.
And, don't rule out the possibility the 552 will get more goodness out of your Stageline.
Enjoy.

Quite a few members swear by the preamp first rule, so the move to a 552 makes perfect sense if one is available at a good price, especially if you have multiple sources as you have
When I slotted my 282 into a system with lower price components - 200/cdx5 - it provided a huge uplift.
So I think it is your speakers which are the limiting factor in your system. Try some others such as Russell K, ATC, WB or the newer PMCs and I think you will be amazed.

Keep the Supercap until you can try a Superline ( via BUrndy, a Snaic just won't do) in the mean time it should be interesting to try it on your Stageline compared to the powered input on the 552. Use a lavender interconnect from the Supercap, at least to start with.
Nice problem :-)

Excellent advice.
You do have a problem. You're going to want to upgrade your NDX...
...
and the Stageline
and the CD transport
and the 250.2
and the NAC A5
and the speakers
and the Quadraspire rack
all as well as the NDX!

Your problem is that sooner or later it will urge you to own a 500

just enjoy the 552.
as for the NDX, well at some point, maybe, later, stick on a Hugo on it, job done.
