Add a non-dr NAP300 to my SN2.

Dear all,

Pretty hard to find some experiences from people who used or are still using this combination. I noticed my ATC's (SCM19) pull quite a bit of juice out the power section of my bare SN2 when played a little louder. I know the ATC's can be played VERY loud without basically very low distortion. Up to 300 Watts I believe.

Although it's only 10 Watts more, I believe it must be a significant more powerful amplifier than the SN2 section.

I was thinking of buying a second hand NAP300 in good condition and add it to the pre amp section of my Supernait. They are hard to find second hand here in The Netherlands, so I could consider a little hop soon to the other side of The Channel. €/£ is dropping, so should get some good deals.

Anyone tried this combo? Very much appreciated..

Joe

I've not tried that but the SN2 has a good pre section if you begin upgrading. I liked the addition of NAP250.2 when I added that with Neat Momentum speakers so it could be a good way to go.

As you say, some speakers like more juice .

I don't have any experiance with your speakers but sn2/300 seam a bit unballanced imo. I would rather put the 300 money in to a source or even pre amp upgrade (eg a used nds). If you really are dissatisfied with you high volume replay I guess other speakers might be a more natural solution than uppgrading an integrated amp with a more than double priced power amp that has more power but really need quallity sorce and pre to show its best.

it's a decent temporary measure. I would do it with the plan to dump the sn2 and get a 282 or a n272.

I think you really need to get yourself to a dealer, and listen to some 'endgame' systems that you can work towards. An unbalanced system might be OK as a short term measure during the upgrade process, but if it doesn't lead you to a system that you are sure is going to work for you, sometimes the upgrade process never ends. Most would say that a 300 is a good match for a 252, and not an ideal match for a lesser preamp, not to mention source quality. The right dealer can help you with this, and it's worth taking some time to get it right.

Wot Chris said - good advice.

Worthwhile only if you plan to move to classic range separates in the longterm.

The 300 is a seriously capable and good sounding amp provided the front ends and pre are up to the task. I'd never pair one with a SN

Thank you all for your opinions. Much appreciated.

I am still enjoying my SN2 to the fullest, so I might hold this for a while until I come across a s/h 282/300 or 252/300 combination.
As I said earlier, these are hard to find here on mainland Europe, but keep my eyes open.

Have a great weekend all.

If you are tending towards the 282 in the medium term, why not get a HiCap for your SN? And whe you upgrade again, you move the Hicap to the 282. A 282/250 system should be a fine combo for your speakers.
