who own's $20,000k and up speakers

I know I spent well beyond but do most with higherend Naim gear have higherend loudspeakers or they blew it all on there electronics and get by with cheap average speakers

At the risk of spoiling the fun by stating the obvious: this is a forum where the majority adheres to the "source first" principle.

Thus, as Piere says, 20k+ speakers would normally be at the end of a very high quality source + electronics chain.

I am personally not convinced but I know I am in the minority (not being British helps). Speakers do affect the sound more than anything else so in my opinion spending on them less than 30% makes no sense.

That being said, my speakers are below the "threshold" but I have heard the higher model (Avantera plus - which meets the criterion-) at a friend's at the end of HDX / XP2 / 252 / 300 and was really really impressed

i would happily stick a pair of $20k+ speakers such as PMC MB2, or better still MB2 XB2 on my system as it is, though it would benefit from a more poweerful amp (as indeed would my existing speakers).

I'd also like to hear a pair of Tannoy Westminster Royals (which wouldn't need a more powerful amp), but realistically they wouldn't fit in my  living room.

When I first saw this thread I thought it would expire by itself as a half joke in four or five posts. If anything, for the name of the poster.

Now I see it's alive and green and has turned to page two. I sincerely do not understand this place and its people anymore. Things are taken seriously that should be laughed about, and the inverse. Some will know what I mean. I don't think I have any more contributions to give, I refuse to take part in discussions involving casual conversation about toys with 5/6-figures price tags.

There's world enough for everyone, but I have enough of reading about people struggling to sort how to spend tenths of thousands in speakers.

Enjoy, enough for me.

(P.s. please spare me a lectio magistralis on pluralism, I won't read it. Bye)

I can't decide which I dislike most, the room or the speakers

I was wondering when I posted that picture that some bright spark may think it was my own system. They are truly horrible and only really suitable for a dedicated listening room where all semblance of taste and restraint are suspended. I suspect though, that those with pockets deep enough would have such a room.

Unfortunately (as a Naim fan) this reminds me of the Naim show in Munich 2017. There, my female accompaniment expressed the opinion that the hideousness of the speakers detracted from the acoustic enjoyment. Such a pity. Incidentally, the word focal is closely related acoustically to the German word for faeces.

I love that - female accompaniment - sounds like a bowl of yogurt. The better term is 'companion'. But then, your English is infinitely better than my German.

Posted on: 05 June 2017 by William

lol How did you know she's my companion?

Posted on: 05 June 2017 by hungryhalibut

Companion is the person with you, whether male, female or indeed an animal. 'Partner' is something else.

She must love you if she's prepared to spend a day at a hifi show with you!

i would say 30% of the total cost of electronics and speakers.  For myself, with my around 75 k system, i have around 22k digital source, 12k turntable /arm/cartridge, 25k electronics, 10k on cables/rack/tweaks, and 7k loudspeakers .  So i think i would i would not invest more than 10/15 k on loudspeakers......My speakers can be upgraded a bit.....

if you re-read my thread I stated who spent "$20K USD and above" on there loudspeakers.

Focal Sopra No. 3

Dear Malaka, the ridiculous photo of the behemoth Focal speakers in the undersized room was probably posted when someone noticed your profile.

SUPER LUMINA FULL LOOM

FOCAL SOPRA 3

==================================

The Forum is loaded with individuals who live and die, for Naim!

Naim's entry level

Naim's mid level

Naim's Hi end Level

Now, one would assume, that the purpose of your thread, was to acquire feedback from individuals, with expensive speakers.

Individuals who own Speakers of that Magnitude, would not have any interest in a 272!

Hence, they will not tune in to this show!

There's a pecking order!

S1

552

252

282

272

202

SN 2

All in one, etc...

==================================

Balanced System:

XPSDR>272>250DR

SCDR>282>250DR/300DR

SCDR>252>300DR

555DR>552>500DR

That's why the 282 is so popular, Flexibility!

 ==================================

Ovators 800 ~ S1 ~ 90K USD

Titans 808 ~ 552 ~ 30K

Magico ~ 552 ~ 30K

Welcome to the Forum, No names mentioned, but we all know the individuals who own the above!

All of them OWN Naim's 2nd Tier Amp, not the 90 watt 300 DR

All of them OWN Naim's Top of the line Streamer, NDS, with the exception of one, and he prefers Naim's Reference CDP!

Not the beautiful affordable 272!

Now look at the Source & Pre-Amp Cost

110K USD~ S1 + CD555

45K USD ~ 552 + NDS

5K USD ~ 272

That's why your thread has gone off on a tangent!

Don't take it personal, for the most part, the Lads ain't Bad!

Now enjoy your Music, the Why!

Don't worry about the How, it will take care of itself!

HH, has an ongoing thread, System Pics.

Take a look, Ovators, DBLs, Titians, Vivid Giya, etc... S1, Fraim....

Beautiful pictures!

Allante93!!!!!

PS. Check their Profile!

BTW, What System do you Own?

Not your interest!

if you want to upgrade something in your system, it would be your 272, the weak link with your nap 300 and focal sopra 3: keep your 555ps, buy an ndx or nds and 252/supercap and sell your 272. You will have a big step in sound quality, better than going from sopra 3 to more 20k speakers.  But i don't say 272/555ps is bad....  The most important components are sources and preamp, so i think you have a little weak source/ preamp vs 300/focal sopra 3.

With all respect and this is a construtive reply in my opinion to a fellow HiFi lover, if I had the kind of spending power you obviously have I would sell the Sopra 3's and the 272/555 and I would then buy a an NDX/XPSDR a 282/SuperCap 2 (nonDR) and some ATC SCM 40 (Passive) and with the change I would by an LP12.
