Naim Nap 500 + Nac 552 with Wilson Audio Sasha 2 - any experience?

Posted by: relmirih on 08 June 2017

Hi,

Contemplating about those speakers (S/H)  and I wonder if there is a personally close experience with any of the forum members? i'll be glad to read...

Currently I own the Sl2 for about 9 years.

I heard them in Munich 2017 show and I really impressed!

I have heard different Wilson Audio speakers over the years and was always impressed. Though never with Naim amplification, only with Devialet and some other brands. However the 500 should be in a good position to drive them....

Can't answer directly, but I did listen and greatly enjoyed  Sasha 2's with a 272/300dr combo.  No doubt they'd perform even better with your combo.

Modern Wilson's can work very well with modern Naim electronics.    Both firms prioritize dynamic life in the music, and work very nicely together.    A well set up pair of Sasha 2's can give you the best of the American high end ethos- tonal accuracy, an expansive soundstage, within a lively form of reproduction.     Partnered with higher end Naim systems,  the superb Naim musicality shines through very fully.     A Naim based Wilson system will sound somewhat different than the combinations you might read about from various audio shows where Wilson more often partners with VTL or Audio Research tube electronics or other American high end amps, but the better Naim amps can work very well when partnered with most Wilson's and certainly the Sasha's and the new Yvette loudspeakers.

Good luck,

Bruce

DR the 500 first.

I listened to my friend's Wilson Sasha (original version) in his bedroom setup about 7 years ago. It sounded organic and tube-like but very dynamic at the same time. It wasn't driven by Naim though. He has Alexandria XLF in his living room driven by some German amps but I preferred the more intimate setting of the Sashas. The Alexandria was rather imposing, or should I say intimidating standing at nearly 6' tall.

I have NDS/552/500 with Wison Sasha 1 for the last 5 years and love Wilson / Naim combination. Last year, I got my system all DR with superlumina cables. Sasha has gotten better and shine with the upgrade.  It is very dynamic and musical. Sasha 2 is better, softer at the top compared to original Sasha that I have. What I love about Wilson Sasha and 500 DR is dynamic even with low volume listening. With volume at 7-8 o'clock on 552, it got the bass and all dynamic kick. I previously had BW speakers. BW speakers may be a bit more on details but I had to turn the volume at 9 o'clock to get them sing, my room size is 13'x14', not big but Sasha / 500 works, no bass traps needed.

One important issue  about Wilson Sasha speaker is positioning. It is a bit fuzzy about positioning.  A few inches adjustment can give you a real reward, expansive sound stage, lively and detail.  Once you got it right, Sasha will sing beautifully. My music collection are mostly Jazz and pop,

you will enjoy the combination.....

Thanks! Ryder & J The Kop, good to hear that..

J The Kop - Which speakers you had befor?

I had BW 804, 803 then was thinking to get 802 diamond but got Sasha. I also have Totem Mani2 which sings beautiful with 500 as well.  Totem is much easier positioning compared to Sasha.

In short No!

But like you, I have always admired David Wilson's Speakers!

Last year I attended a Seminar displaying Alexx, Wilson's $109K Speaker.

50% Streaming, 35% CD, 15% TT

Beautiful, powered by D' Agostino's Mono Blocks!

The only neg, I could take away, the Host, was careful not to over power the Room!

Last night, different story!

Same Host

Same Mono Blocks

Wilson debuts the new kid on the Block!

Alexia 2!

Only 59K USD! LOL

I'm planning a Bank Robbery, this very moment!

Kind of reminds you of the Sasha:

H x W x D ~ 53 x 15 x 23 (inches)

Only 260 lbs per channel! Wow!

Minimum amplification 20 watts.

First tune cello, not bad really show the speakers positives. Second. & third tunes so so, Louis Armstrong, and under the boardwalk. First four tunes were were sourced with tape! The fourth tune was orchestra  style, beautiful, he couldn't give the name out like it was a big secret.

In any event, he digressed to the Rickie Lee Jones on CD, it was awful that's when I jumped in with my CD not to be overpowering but I kind of took over at that point and captured the audience! Wow, Mino Cinelu, mesmerized them he was hitting some time and Pace with the CD it was just gorgeous, the speaker's shine and to the Host point Wilson uses multiple amps to test their Speakers, not just D Agostino, Audio Research, even tube Amplification. Okay I'm getting long-winded you get the picture the speaker is something special not overpowering will fit in the room I will shoot some pictures later! Over and out.

Enjoy your music, The Why!

Allante93!

PS. Both Host, did comment on the SQ of Mino Cinelu. As well as the Audience.

Excuse the PQ, Cheap Android Phone, and Poor lighting!

Towards the end of the night, 45 min section, about 10-12 guest in this Section.

Nice Ceiling Height, and Width of the Room extends 1-2 meters of Speakers!

That's it!

Technologies passed down from Wamm!  New Tweeter, and better Isolation!

analogous to Technologies passed down from The Statement!

They'd be an acquired taste I think. Can't see my wife giving them house space. It's bad enough with the Briks.

Looks wise I mean. I've never heard them.

Allante!

Have the active Isobariks that you heard at that show in the mid 90s been surpassed?

Well, that's a long time ago, and again I've never herd Active Briks with Naim's 6-Pack, 135's

However, The Last Active Set up I heard  at the Linn Dealer, some time ago, wasn't with the briks, it was I forget the predecessor!

Very Nice, and it was with the 4 Klouts not 3!

But when I came HOME and listened to my Active Briks, I wasn't that far Off!

As HH, says there's no Substitute for hands on Experience!

When it's all said and done, it's all good. I never heard the 2007 CES Active Set up, bet it was nice!

CD555> 282 > Snaxo > 3 x 250.2 > Dibbles

or , Tonym's Active 500 Dibbles, that's my point, at some point, it's all Good.

So to answer your question, even if it wasn't Active Briks, Yes!!!!

In Fact, that System I heard last night, was superb, to say the least, but once Again The Speakers were Listed @ 59K USD

When I got home and listened to my Weak Passive Tri-Amped Isobariks, it wasn't all that Bad!

Cdx2>282>HCDR>3 x 250.2s>Fraimlite>Briks

Enjoy Your Music, The Why!

Allante93!

PS. next purchase Snaxo 362 & SCDR

That's what's nice about the Briks, you can Bi-Amp Them Passively, Tri-Amp them Passively, then Go Full Blown Active!

I thought Naim's Speakers had that Capability, But the Big Fish & Mr Richard Dane, corrected me, on my false assumption.

Lyndon, I listened to Aktiv Briks Daily for Twenty years, until my Linn XO went out!

That's my photo!

LP 12/ Ghenki> Karin> Dirak> Linn XO with Bingo Card> 3 x LK 280> Briks

So I'm pretty familiar with Aktiv Briks, just not Naim Active Briks!

Repeat next purchase:

Snaxo 362 & SCDR

Got it!

LOL.....

PS.

So I will be comparing Linn's Aktiv Briks with LK 280s Vs.  Naim's Active Briks with 250.2s

Can't wait, Perhaps you can loan me a couple of Dollars!!!!LOL.....
