Any tips for Wembley Concert

Posted by: Redmires on 11 June 2017

I'm off to see Jeff Lynne in a couple of weeks (Sat 24th Jun). I've not been to the new Wembley before so would appreciate any tips. We'll be driving, coming east along the M4. We were thinking of getting there early and having a meal beforehand.

What's the parking like ?

What time would be best to arrive for a 7pm start.

What's the departure like (gridlock ?????)

Thanks in advance

There's a good car park there ... I went to a show at Wembley Arena back in November and was easy traffic arriving about 5pm.  Pay before leaving didn't have bad queues.

Not sure if it's the same car park, but search "Wembley Parking" gives a website where you can pre-book too.

There's an Ibis hotel right next door which makes it very easy - but I just checked and it's £360 for that night!

I guess you need to book well in advance - I stayed there for around £70 a year ago and it was well worth it at that price.

Providing its at a weekend, I always park at Stanmore tube station at the top of the Northern Line (I think) for about £2.. It something like 10 minutes and 4 stops to Wembley.

Jubilee Line from Stanmore to Wembley Park.   Metropolitan Line also serves Wembley Park and if driving up the M4 you could come off at say Slough and head for Uxbridge or Hillingdon and get the Metropolitan from there.  Traffic coming round the North Circular into Wembley can be very heavy no matter when. Chlltern Railways from Marylebone and various points north (High Wycombe, Bicester etc) runs into Wembley Stadium station.

Thanks for the replies and here's an update which may be of use to others. In the end after a bit of research I ended up parking on a private driveway about 10 minutes walk from the stadium. I used the justpark dot com website, chose a location and paid my £13. We turned up at 4pm, had a bite to eat, watched the gig (excellent by the way) and got back to the car at about 10:45pm. The traffic leaving the area was a bit slow for 10 minutes but not unbearable. I chose this method because

a) I read some horrendous reviews of cars gridlocked for over 2 hours in the red, yellow, gold official car parks

b) the cost of parking and riding a couple of stops away on the tube would have been dearer (and less convenient) than the driveway option

Lastly, I must say I was impressed with the new Wembley. The last time I was there (Live Aid 1985) was in the old stadium, which had all the charm of a public convenience.

I would have thought that being at the Live Aid concert you'd have been too absorbed in the show to have paid much attention to the venue. I think not going to that concert is one of my biggest mistakes. A recently ex girlfriend went too. Grrr!!
