Uniti Core

Posted by: fotobrooks on 21 June 2017

On my second Core, and it seems to be working as expected. Has anyone come across the front standby light and cd light flashing on and off constantly. Came home from work last night and this is what the Core was doing. Only way to stop it was to turn off and on. Seems to be OK again now. Any suggestions to cause this?

i have it at home and did not really understood why it goes to sleep itself....And to shut it off i had no other solution that putting off the power cord ....perhaps someone on this forum will explain that.

I can explain everything about the Core, but I'd get banned.

Not a fan then!

I'm a fan, but the product is regressive

Posted on: 21 June 2017 by fotobrooks

What product has it regressed from?

Look up Core on the Naim website it explains what you are asking.

The Unitiserve

The front standby light and cd light shouldn't ever be flashing constantly, so it's a sign that it has crashed. Restarting it is the only thing to do. If it happens again then I think it may need to be replaced under warranty again, but you could talk to Naim support first in case they have any ideas.

Thanks for this David, will talk to Naim. Bet they'll be delighted if they have to replace another one for me...!

Hi,

By default the Core goes into auto standby (front panel logo turned off) as required by European and US regulations if there is no activity (control from the app) for 20 minutes, however as it is a network product (UPnP server) then for those functions to remain active the unit itself remains active on the network and can be brought out of standby quickly.

There is no physical "on/off" switch on the unit.

Best Regards

Phil Harris

Hi,

Not something that we've come across before - might seem an odd question but were the power and eject buttons flashing together / in time? Were they flashing alternately? Were they flashing out of sync with each other? If you drop us an email to support@naimaudio.com then we can pick this up with you.

Cheers

Phil

I know what you mean. Thing is, for me it's a perfect fit, all my CDs ripped and sounding great (all tags and artwork correct). Same with all my downloaded files. Just frustrating if it's now starting to fall over. Perhaps the Phil and the Tech team need a good session on Summer Lightning... believe it's brewed nearby!

The power and eject buttons flashing together. Have just sent an email to support@naimaudio.com

Mine flashes in Morse code which I've decoded as:

"help me, I need new firmware"

Posted on: 22 June 2017 by fotobrooks

I feel like that most days! Technology... don't you just love it!

Think a long swim, then a cold beer and a strum on the acoustic guitar is called for...

Presumably this could easily be corrected by a post-Brexit firmware update.

I think Naim are Remainers...

The Firmware is going to remain as it is...

Don't be a spoil sport Christine, a special UK only olive edition would sell like hot cakes.

i understand your critics and had the same experience...But you said 2 months ago also one thing: the core is a step forward in sound quality vs the serve.   Do you still think this?

Posted on: 22 June 2017 by Christine

Yes, the sound quality is better or at least different vs the Unitiserve.

Although I've not used it since February as it doesn't work properly and I won't rip any new CDs with it as I'm sticking to the far superior Unitiserve.

Posted on: 22 June 2017 by fotobrooks

If it doesn't work properly, why not replace it under warranty?

Perhaps foterbrook is right, you can replace it buy a new one, the guarantee should work. Maybe a lot of problems in ripping and editing were not only a question of software updates but also the hardware on the first cores was different....?   naim say that the hardware had not changed, but commercially speaking naim audio has no interest to reveal that.....

I'm waiting for my Atom to arrive, I might ask my dealer what he will give me for it.

I can't be bothered trying to explain to Naim why it doesn't work, they'll insist it does blah blah blah

I read on this forum that some member had returned their core and received a new one.  Anyway good luck.
