Posted by: Stigolulea on 26 June 2017

Planing to buy a Naim streamer.

Only one i heard is Unitiqute 2, due to distance to reseller (1000km, not kidding)

The UQ2 i realy liked, rock'n roll and analog sound compared to my Linn Majik/D

Now i wounder how is the UQ2 compared to the 272 and superuniti ?

And the new Atom and Nova ? Anyone heard them yet ?

Best regards / Christer

That's a very broad question: do you want an all in one? The 272 needs a separate power amp. What's your budget? Those you mention range from about £1,200 to over £4,000. What are your speakers?

I bought an ND5XS, remotely by mail order never having heard it. A nice little machine, I enjoyed its sound which as far as memory served was comparable in sound quality and character to the defunct CD player it replaced (Shearne Audio Phase 7).

After a happy year with it I added an external power supply, the CD5XS, and found the marginal improvement disappointing for the money, and got rid of it, and instead upgraded by adding an external DAC (Hugo). A while later I changed further, and no longer have the ND5XS, but that info, can be found elsewhere.

If you are new to streaming you'll also need to consider the music store - the majority use a NAS (netorkmattached storage) on a network. Personally I think a store combined with renderer (the playing of the streamer before the DAC) has merit, taking the network out of the occasion and hence the challenges some people have, and consideration of network cables and switches etc. Depending what computer you have there are some computer options that give surprisingly good sound quality. A Naim version of a combined store and renderer is the Uniti Core, which can plug straight to a DAC by SPDIF - but there still seem to be some teething concerns and I'm not sure if its firmware is fully sorted yet (much on this forum). There others not Naim if you are interested enough to search.

I have a 272, a Superuniti and a Unitiqute 2 and I have heard an Atom and a Nova but I wouldn't know how to start to answer your question. As HungryHalibut says, you need to tell us more about the context for us to be able to help you.

@ Peder, thanks

@ Hungryhlibut

Got active Linn Akubariks, so builtin preamp looks nice.

I like the smaller beacause of the size of them( an old scoll linn'ist )

And budget,,, i can afford them

Was looking at the Linn Akurate dsm, but think it's a bit dull and then heard the UQ2.

@ Innocent bystander

Have an qnap, cat7 cabels, cisco router,,,,, so the Nas-part is ok i think.

My Majik ds is broken But my Main source is the Lp12, and got an squeezebox for temporary.

So i can wait for the new uniti's, just wanted some oppinions.

Wants something fun, analog, wantingtodrinkbeer sound

Assuming you want to stay with the active speakers, if I were you I would probably want to hear a 272.

If small size is important to you then you could also try an Atom used as a streamer rather than as an all in one. They are supposed to be on the verge of release, but who knows when you could actually try one at home?

But I suspect the 272 would win out.

Thaks David

Guess i'll have to go to Stockholm when the Atom and Nova are released to compare against the 272.

The 272 is going for real bargains these days.

The 272 makes the most sense. There's little point getting a Uniti when you don't need the poweramp, and the 272 will sound better anyway.
