NDS - burndys / s-xps

Help!  I am rather confused - have found a used NDS at a trusted dealer but doesn't come with the pair of burndys it should have to link to my (non-DR) 555 - it does have an s-xps.  Am p/exing my ND5XS which has s-xps, so keeping my s-xps would save money.

But do I really need to get the two burndys?  Am I wasting the NDS with an s-xps? Am a bit confused

Sorry if the questions are stoopid!

If you have a 555ps you really want those burndys. Do you need the XPS? Why not sell it and get the burndys?

Aren't all the burndys the same?

If you use just the S-XPS you will get only part of the benefit of the 555PS. You need to sell the S-XPS and get the proper pair.

You need 2 burndys. However, with my 2014 NDS which was bought new and installed by a dealer I am using one SXPS burndy and one 555A burndy. In my NDS user manual, which I downloaded in 2014, the graphic shows exactly this configuration for connecting the NDS to my 555PS. The SXPS burndy is connected to input 1 on the NDS, and the 555A to input 2. Looking at the current NDS manual on the Naim website, I see that the SXPS burndy is no longer shown, rather a 555D burndy is connected to input 1. I assume therefore that the SXPS must be the same as the 555D.

I do not know if all burndys are the same, but the fact that Naim identifies these differently surely implies they are not the same. Also, one has two thin white bands at the NDS end, and the other only a single white band. If they were the same no such differentiation would be necessary.

Hope this helps.

That's true. I guess they are different. Maybe you can use 2 555 burndys, 1 xps and 1 555 burndy but not 2 xps burndys?

NDS is shipped in two states, depening on an order:

1. With two custom burndy cables for a connection to a 555PS

2. With one socket plugged, for a connection to an XPS. (XPS has a burdny of its own).

Looks like OP has acquired a 2nd option here. Connecting to a 555PS is possible, but a special pair of NDS burdnies must be ordered via a dealer.

Thanks for the answers - collected the NDS today but away for weekend so no chance to install until Sunday evening or maybe Monday morning. Should have the appropriate pair of burndys by then also...

Excited. Very excited!
