Cd5 to flatcap2
Posted by: Robert Allan on 01 July 2017
i have nac112 and nap150 and a cd5. I purchased a flatcap2 however it doesn't connect to the flatcap. Naim says I need an replace this cd5 output with an upgrade connector. Has anyone experienced this problem that I'm having? Thanks for any input. Rob
To power the CD5 from a flatcap you simply remove the link plug on the back and connect the two with a 5 pin Snaic lead. You use the connector on the flatcap which is second from the right as you look at it from the back. It's all clear in the manual, which I've just looked up online.
Do remember that when you upgrade the CD5 with a Flatcap, you are basically using the flatcap as a dedicated power supply for the analogue output stage on the CD5; i.e. you still need to have the power cable connected to the CD5 and switched on, as the CD5's internal supply is then dedicated to the transport, logic control and digital circuitry.
Also, with a Flatcap 2 you can power both the NAC 112 and the CD5 analogue stage with just the one Flatcap 2. You will need to have two SNAIC5s to do this.
I used to have a similar system, however, i would consider upgrading the 112 to a 112x or a 122x as the next step. The upgrades are addictive though, i now have a 202/200/NAPSC. I have no CD player, going down the streaming route now. I still play LP's

Or NAC152XS if you want the latest thinking, and you want to stay with the 5 series look. Admittedly the fascia will have a more sophisticated, brushed look but you get the idea.
The flat cap is purchased, hopefully it came with at least one Snaic, the diagram shows what to do to connect a CD5. Powering the pre too will probably be of benefit but will need a 2nd Snaic, if you decide to do this, of the 3 possible sockets, take the signal from the fc output adjacent to where the Snaic connects.
