Can Nac282 + Hicap pair with NAP500
Posted by: fotogolfer on 05 July 2017
I am currently using NAP250.2 driving S400, was thinking upgrading to a NAP250DR or NAP300DR, but recently saw an pre-owned NAP500 + PS selling at a price lower than a brand new NAP300DR. Does anyone try such pairing before, or any idea how the result would be? Thank you for your attention to my question.
The 500 will work in this setup but....
Whether it's a good way to spend the cash (service costs, DR upgrade) and then needing to up the game on the Pre-amp and source is probably not the way i'd go.

Interesting, you are looking for something more from those 400s!
Not speaking from experience, I know, shut up!
But seriously, I would imagine that Naims 800s was for individuals that had 30K, and a large enough room, for them to breath.
Furthermore, I would imagine Naim's 500 series would complement them Bigly!
Similarly, I would imagine, that Naim's classic 250, should be enough clean power to drive your 400s.
But it appears you are looking for more!
Well, the 282 is no slouch, I would imagine it could control an 500.

With that being said, I would imagine an 252/500, might bring more to the party.
And you are looking for more!
Have you considered looking elsewhere, in your System!
Upgrading the Front end Source, Room Acoustics, Upgrading Cabling, Cable Management, Dedicated Mains, etc...
Remember, the Linn/Naim Merger in the Beginning.
Front~ Linn ~ LP 12
Middle ~ Naim
Tail ~ Linn ~ Briks
Julian was a real guy, I recall some of his quotes, paraphrasing:
"" Naim electronics will only enhance your System, albeit, the head, or tail!""
In short, nothing wrong with demoing different Speakers!
Good Luck, with your quest for more!

Weren't you using a Supernait a year ago? Quite a move.
not exactly the best use of money, but I were you I would grab it at that price.
Great amp and you won't be disappointed but value really depends on how old it is and how much under 300 retail price you are seeing.
If you are in the UK they can be found for circa £7k, with between 5-10 years on the clock, often enough.
So unless you are seeing it a lot cheaper, or newer, or of exemplary provenance (to be fair most are usually pretty well looked after), there may not be a need to rush into it.
But I suspect, like most of us here the attraction has become too strong, and you are probably going for it. In which case - enjoy.

Yes, I was using a Supernait only a year ago, at the beginning I was only trying to replace my ProAc D15 with a pair of S400 when we moved to an apartment with bigger listening room, and then added an NAP250.2 to Supernait, and then a Hicap to the supernait, and then NAC282, and HicapDR and PLs. I am very impressed with the obvious improvement on every upgrade, especially the fraim was a huge surprise. When I was studying weather a NAP250DR or NAP300DR to be my final destination, I saw this attractive offer of of NAP500. However, I never seen anyone with such pairing which makes me think if it is better to go back to NAP300DR or NAP250DR. I hope all your wisdom would help me to decide. Thanks a lot in advance.
Nap 250DR is brilliant. 300DR better but way more costly. Personally I'd stick with a new 250DR rather than spend big on the 500 that will need big money spent in a few years. You have a great balanced system now. Look to the front end or risk seriously deminishing returns.
