I will in the coming days publish my impressions of the North Sea Jazz Festival. Under this post. As I don't have anymore a functioning Photobucket I can't show you Festival photo's or videos - so i will try to compensate with other visual material which is available.

North Sea Jazz Festival is for me always a key event in the year....

Next one on was the third concert of Chick Corea with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra. I didn't visit by the way his 2nd concert with Bela Fleck....

Very intelligent arrangement of the songs of Chick, sometimes so well done that it was almost not recognizable. The playing of Chick and the orchestra was also very good. I however enjoyed the pieces most in which Chick played a intermezzos with a subset of the orchestra. The real joy of music sounded through at those moments...

Quickly dipped into the cinematic orchestra and Liberty Ellman. Both too short to have a real impression.

I then switched to Wolfgang Muthspiel. Nice but also with a bit a disbalance in execution. Ralph Allesi did a great job, Jeff Ballard didn't fit in he ensemble in my ears (to much present to busy for the kind of music). But overall a good concert.

Had a quick listen to Angles 9, for me too much focused on bringing violence n the stage. Stepped out after a short while, on our hifi it might sound more interesting....

The concert of Ambrose Akinmusire was the absolute highlight of the evening. What this man get's out of his trumpet is absolute magic. I was a bit critical about his last album, as I found it difficult to access but in concert it was a revelation with still some difficult free moments, brilliant...

I came to the end of this festival with the concert of the Dominic J. Marshall Trio. A combination of very fine lyrical playing and electronics and beats. While it's enjoyable, the lyrical part is the part I like most.....

So overall a good Festival, while it was not my best North Sea Jazz. A great festival is determined by some outstanding concerts which you will still remember after years. While I saw some great concerts I missed 1 - 3 amazing concerts. I am planned again for next year.
