Turntable tonearm ground wire to superNait or to Stageline?

Posted by: Robiwan on 08 July 2017

Both the SuperNait and the Stageline have a signal ground wire connection on the back to connect a turntable tonearm ground wire lead. My Stageline N is powered by an I-Supply and all my Naim gear including the AT LP5 turntable is connected to a Musicline Netzleiste.

The tonearm ground wire can be connected as follows:

1. From TT to Stageline N?

2. From TT to SuperNait?

3. From TT to Stageline N and a seperate lead from Stageline to SuperNait?

If the TT tonearm ground wire is not connected at all there is a buzz/hum, not very loud but it's there.

To my ears at fully open volume option 1 seems to be the most quiet. But from a technical point of view regarding the Naim "grounding policy" which of the options is best?

Hi,

for me running the ground wire to the post on the SN2 and a second wire from the SN to the phono stage works well. I am reasonably sure, this is what the manual says as well.

Manual only says that the signal ground on the SN is for a turntable.

1 should be the best option (and your own findings concur with this)

I don't have the SN2 manual at hand, but this might have been in the Superline manual which is back at my dealers place now.

Anyhow, this is the best = quietest setup in my system.

i shall try it! But the Superline manual doesn't mention the second seperate wire

"3.3.2 Connect the pick-up arm earth lead to the rear panel ground terminal".

Everything is ok in there's no hum. It has no influence to sound quality. Christoph

I have my LP12 T-kable connected to the Stageline, signal and ground leads, and the stageline connected to the 252 by its DIN cable only.  Nothing connected to the 252 ground connector.  No hum or other gremlins.

Likewise on my Superline and no hum either
