Connecting my sources to different inputs?

Posted by: kowalski on 11 July 2017

My 17 year old NAC112 doesn't have many input connectors back of the unit.

My NAC112 has these buttons on front panel: cd - tuner - tape - av - aux1 - aux2

I'm using both TAPE - AV - AUX1 for my 3x video sources to receive audio (DVD - LD player - SVHS

My issue is that I have 2 more video sources which I have not connected to my NAC112, I want to connect these video sources to my Naim stereo. Can I use TUNER input to connect my 2nd SVHS player?

The AUX2 is for phono stage, but there is still the other input available on the two AUX2 inputs with the 180 degree 5 pin input. Can I use this free input for my other video source?

I appreciate your help, thanks.

Except for the powered aux2 which shouldn't be used if the unpowered one is connected to anything, all the inputs are line level, cd, tuner, tape, av, aux1 and aux2(unpowered) are all suitable for your purpose. Tape, av and aux1 also have outputs, these don't have to be connected. There's no substitute for reading the manual.

Thanks for the info.

I did read the manual, there isn't very much info about what to connect or not to connect?

I once tried the AUX2 with 5 pin input connected to my one of my video sources, sound was very low and not very good, I disconnected this at once.

I have my NAIM phonostage connected to one of the AUX2 inputs, the other 5 pin input is free not used

It's great that the TUNER line in has the same line level as the other inputs, I can use the TUNER and AUX1 for my other video sources

Do you know whether the signal is grounded through any of your sources? It should be through one only, this would normally be through a Naim CD player.

Have you found the variable input sensitivity (I'm assuming it's the same as the Nait 5). This might explain the low signal level you experienced, unless you were connecting both aux2 socket, that would do probably do it.

Can't help with the mosquito nets.

"RTFM" - a cry I often used to hear in our IT technical support department.

Thing is, is a 17 year old manual (and I'm impressed that Kowalski still has it) going to be telling you about the stuff you want to connect in this day and age?

i had the phono stage connected to AUX2 while I also connected the 5pin to my video source therefore I received the low sound, maybe not a good  combination to have both connected?

I have no earthed outlets at home, had to use a ground loop separator to kill the hum from my speakers

You must never have both AUX2 inputs with each connected - just one or the other.

that's what i did, disconnected the IC after i did the quick test.

is it possible to fry the NAC112 if both AUX2 inputs are connected at the same time?
