Where is The Donald thread ??
Florestan posted:Huge posted:joerand posted:I'd imagine that, like most any job, moderating has its ebbs and flows. Make hay during the ebbs and absorb the seeming pittance during the flows. If you agree to host emotional topics that involve music, politics and religion, you're going to have to deal with gnarly consequences sooner or later. "Beatification"? "Saint"? Such extreme use of nouns now prevelant in this Twitter/social media age. Somewhere along the line just being a "good guy" has been rendered meaningless.
I just thought that my specific use of hyperbolic language here fitted best with the rash of my usual disdain for use of hyperbole in the 'Trump' thread itself and so was most appropriate here as well, for me to be distinguished from some others and a small group of likeminded individuals!
...because I can be helpful and generous with adding perspective and correcting misspoken text, I can assist in making the above humble statement more clear. I am sure it was just a slip of a few fingers Huge and wow, the whole meaning appeared to be opposite of what you should have said?
As indeed can I equally help with the further clarification of your generous additional perspective given to my previous words.
OK, so fair enough. You have judiciously honed my suggestions and given that I must head to the kitchen to satisfy my empty stomach we'll settle on this final improvement. Much better than the original version anyway

Nothing changed. Just one of the words you used falling foul of the automatic naughty word filter. You posted the same reply many times over so I felt it best to delete all but one.
Richrard,
I was just trying to penetrate the lines of defense.. Could you enlighten me and tell what spesific toxic word of mine triggered that nuclear alert?
Gone again?
Perhaps Naim have been influenced by SeattleNaim's threat not to buy their stuff anymore.
Instead of killing a thread, a better alternative is to warn and then follow up by blocking or banning someone who is deemed to be not a good citizen?
Maybe Seattlenaim was right but in the wrong way: our moderator has just realised that "Trump" is so toxic that even having the word in the same sentence as Naim is damaging to the Naim brand.
+1
One can never sum it up better than this.
Sad!
There have been some complaints so forum protocol is to move to an admin room for review.

Although I was thoroughly enjoying it, I get why it needs checking. I may not be totally innocent here. I don't much care whether or not it resurfaces.
It would make life much more easier for the moderator if the 'Trump' thread was replaced by the xpresident 'Obama' thread.' then he would not need to get out of bed..,

Richard,
Hopefully it will pass the litmus test. Thanks for all the hard work.
We just replace it by TMFKAT, the man formerly know as...
It is remarkable to me that the Trump thread gets pulled over a rant by an American NAIM customer who chose to be offended by it. Being offended, whether you are Native American, Black, or Female, or Otherwise Put Upon, is a choice which the offended uses as a source of power. This boycott Naim talk is just what I would expect out of a coastal US state. No thanks. That would never fly around here. As my choice, I have enjoyed being a part of this back and forth. As a solid NAIM American myself, I decline to be offended by it. I understand that most extremes of UK politics can be accommodated by the Democrat party in the US. I live in the Democrat Capital of the Southeastern Conference. I am married to a real one. Keep it coming. I am thick skinned enough to participate in the Padded Cell. If you are not, stay in the Music Room.
It's a pity that we could not have a healthy discussion and debate as Trump is one of the most interesting ( and most entertaining ) political topic of the day.
I certainly wasn't too thrilled to be accused of being a king of fake news. I generally have a tough skin but don't want to be called something I am not.
I understand why Naim pulled the thread considering majority of folks here were anti-trump and probably not a good business to keep the thread going.
My understanding is that it was pulled for review, which does not necessarily mean it will not be back.
What has been startling, indeed shocking to me, is how extremely right wing a seemingly significant number of US contributors are, they regarding very middle of the road UK views as very left wing. I never realised how far apart our two countries are.
My impressions of the USA have been moulded over decades by the way the country comes across on films and in the news, and it has made me feel it is not somewhere I would want to live, and have no desire to visit, though at the same time I had been aware that films may often be distorted by deliberate highlighting of certain characteristics, while news almost inevitably highlights the bad. But the contributions by numbers of US contributors on the Trump thread has done nothing to balance the impressions that film and news has created...
Apologies to all. I was in Belgium supporting the Bentley M Sport team for the 24 hours of Spa (Bentley took 2nd) and so driving and only with phone and 3G, so was unable to review properly. I'm now back home so will do so when I have a break.
before I do so, perhaps this break could be a good time to think about trying to practice some empathy and respect for others views and positions. And also remember that regardless of culture, politics, or religion, we are all on here for the same mutual interest - Naim and our love of music.
You'al wincing watching Scaramucci's first UK BBC interview?
Only in America!
Having lived and worked in a variety of places in the U.S. I can only say my experiences were 100% positive. A warm, friendly and hospitable bunch of folk (OK, living in Queens was a bit "interesting").
What I soon learned was that at first I was surprised by how I'd assumed we were more alike we'd be. Certain attitudes that are perhaps prevalent (and taken for granted) here are different over there. A gross generalisation admittedly.
I treasure my time there and the things I learned about myself that wouldn't have happened if I had stayed at home.
Political views can shock when you assume any sort of neutral ground. Such is the case here I think.

Frank, the iPhone still allows me to moderate. But back end admin and large editing jobs are more difficult.
Deleting and banning is relatively easy though...
Touché!
Nice one Richard!

In fairness, USA is actually two countries. The central lump. And the west and east coasts.
W/E coasts are pretty much caught up with modern European views, although some I have seen expressed to my face in north carolina was enough to make my flesh crawl.
The middle lump is essentially 40 years behind. They will get there, but not in my lifetime.
