Where is The Donald thread ??

Posted on: 31 July 2017 by Richard Dane

I got home last night just in time to see the commemoration at The Menin Gate in Ypres on telly - we had actually driven past not so far from there earlier in the day.

So, another thought on this day, 100 years since the battle of Passchendale, would be to reflect on all those lives lost as a result of such a terrible entrenched conflict.  That should put current issues into some kind of perspective.

Actually I thought he came across rather well in that interview. He clearly enjoyed flirting with the lovely Emily M, too.

And unlike his boss, when she told him not to, he stopped (well he toned it down sufficiently anyway).

What has been startling, indeed shocking to me, is how extremely right wing a seemingly significant number of US contributors are, they regarding very middle of the road UK views as very left wing. I never realised how far apart our two countries are.

In fairness, USA is actually two countries. The central lump. And the west and east coasts.

W/E coasts are pretty much caught up with modern European views, although some I have seen expressed to my face in north carolina was enough to make my flesh crawl.

The middle lump is essentially 40 years behind. They will get there, but not in my lifetime.

Jon, I really tried to resist replying here as it isn't the place and I don't have the time but I have to say that your comments here are really emblematic of why division and polarity is increasing to high levels.  You essentially dissed at least half the population with your elitist views and you feel justified in doing so.  Really surprising coming from someone who maintains we should only talk about hi-fi, streaming, and the hardware things here.  Music?  What's that other than to use to showboat your monolithic machinery?  Maybe the middle lump is 40 years behind in musical taste and elitism too?

Your central view about how most people must be irrelevant is exactly how the Trump thread is being managed.  It was started under the guise (one would presume?) that we could talk about the Trump Presidency but it was evident from the start that its only mandate was "we hate Trump, and don't you dare disagree with this position."  You are a _$*#&%*  @)#(!^__ if you try and the "gang" will push you out.  This is just disrespect and contempt.

"The central lump. And the west and east coasts."    Perhaps more affectionately and correctly known as the "fly over states" and the "left coasts."

Sorry, but if liberal elitism (and mocking those beneath you) is what you are praising, you can keep it.  This isn't evolution (at least in a positive sense).  More on this later and elsewhere, that is if you approve?

The voting demographics are actually more closely aligned to city/non-city residents. It's just that the biggest cities tend to be in the coastal areas. There seems to be a definite gerrymander, though. The votes of people who reside in Idaho or Wyoming have much greater weight (for some purposes) than those who reside in California, for example.

Is it me or is this thread slowly being  hijacked and turned into an extension of the supposedly under investigation Trump thread? Cunning folks!

Posted on: 31 July 2017 by Huge

Indeed "Trump Thread Re-Incarnated",

or,

heaven forbid...

"Trump Thread Re-Run"

We don't want the whole of that one again right from the start all the way to the bitter end!

Apologies to all. I was in Belgium supporting the Bentley M Sport team for the 24 hours of Spa (Bentley took 2nd) and so driving and only with phone and 3G, so was unable to review properly. I'm now back home so will do so when I have a break.

before I do so, perhaps this break could be a good time to think about trying to practice some empathy and respect for others views and positions. And also remember that regardless of culture, politics, or religion, we are all on here for the same mutual interest - Naim and our love of music.

I watched the race(final couple of hours anyway) and those R8s were on fire. Good effort by the Bentley boys. Hard life, hein Richard?

I agreed absolutely, been to mid-west/deep south and seen it myself - absolutely places of 40 years ago mindset.

Sorry, but I must agree to some extent with Florestan's last post.

This thread is becoming so abusive and should be closed.

Now, the whole population of the mid-west / south United States (you know, the middle lump) are being insulted.

Thankfully It's not up to anyone to decide when threads should be closed, save the moderators. And I suspect the populace in question would regard it as a complement, not an insult, to be  labelled as being 40 years behind the times.

Well, while we're waiting for the proper Trump thread to come back, BBC News just reporting breaking news that Scaramucci has been sacked!

Unbelieveable,  I was only commenting today after watching his interview with BBC's  Emily Maitlis that this guy cannot have a great life expectancy   .......................   BBC Breaking News:   White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci is out of the job after less than 10 days in the post.  The former financier, who took the job last Friday, had drawn criticism after calling a reporter to give a profanity-laced tirade against his colleagues. Mr Trump's chief of staff Reince Priebus and spokesman Sean Spicer both left their post over his appointment.  The decision was made by Mr Trump's new chief of staff, John Kelly, US media report. A statement is expected soon.

You couldn't write a book on this stuff

Mooch is out!

I kinda had a feeling after Kelly is installed, he might not last long.

He only lasted 11 days!

I think that the whole US folks are still behind on some issues. ( gender inequality issues for instance )

But I haven't lived in your country so hard to say what the reality is.

She is fearsomely intelligent. Maybe that's part of the attraction.  When the BBC were recently forced to reveal the details of their high earners I was very surprised that Emily didn't feature, as not earning £150k or more. Bet she's chewed a fews ears about that!

Agreed:  A press report says she will not be with BBC unless a new deal is agreed.  Last week BBC said there was a “good offer on the table”.

Posted on: 31 July 2017 by MDS

I hope the offer is good enough for the BBC to keep her as she'd be a loss, and I mean professionally.  As you say, Mike, she takes no prisoners when interviewing, but is effective without being nasty (where Paxman fails).

Who employs all these people Trump keeps sacking?   Shouldn't that person be sacked to save all the inevitable multiple sackings?

Hopefully the offer is a huge wage cut for all those leading men.
