DSD Rock Album recommendation

Posted by: daveyu on 12 July 2017

Looking for a recommendation for a Rock album in DSD format to really show off the benefits of the format.

Where to download it from would be good as well

Thanks

I don't have a recommendation for you. However, at the below site you can browse rock albums in DSD format (and see where they are available and if region restrictions apply).

Thanks, useful link, 158 Rock albums, only 27 available in UK sadly, might go for Thriller as it seems the most popular

if you live in usa: hdtracks.  in europe: qobuz- highrez audio- tidal( no dsd on tidal).

For me, dsd for rock music is made from analog sources. I prefer the lp for rock from 70's and 80's.  But you can have true dsd for today music, but very very few. More on 24/96 or 24/192.

I found one interesting on hdtracks: roger waters-open to death/ dsd

Much as I am a great fan of DSD,  it's not ideal for rock.  End to end recording is where DSD scores in SQ terms & this is how the DSD specialist companies usually record simple single/low number mic acoustic small ensemble studio work.   But DSD is not suited for the production methods used in rock (in any big multi-track production) & as such most all are recorded in or at least processed through PCM & finally transcoded to DSD.    Dutch live recording jazz specialists Sound Liaison sell their albums in DSD & PCM,  they have always recorded in PCM but continue to experiment & perfect what is possible with DSD end to end.  The leading DSD record company in US, the world even,  Blue Coast Records,  record a lot of their acoustic & undubbed live stuff in DSD,  but the big stuff multi-mic stuff is in PCM & frequently recommend (hint) PCM as the prefered replay medium.

qobuz: david crosby croz: 24/96.  the best sounding high rez pop/rock i have. A marvelous album too

i found : naxatras. psychedelic rock on native dsd. com.  but don't know it.

the jazz side of the moon( music of pink floyd): dsd  hdtracks. available

Hdtracks has perhaps 150 dsd albums in all genre, very very few of this available in europe. So why matter with this....it is probably a dead format yet, like sacd or dvd audio or blue ray audio.  The vast majority are 24/96 or 24/48.

i have 3 dsd in all my 300 high rez. I prefer these dsd albums on original format: lp

Toto 4 is very good on DSD. "Africa " is very incisive and crisp.
