QNAP/Twonky6/Naim App alphabeticalises album tracks in new rips only

Posted by: Bosh on 13 July 2017

Not ripped any albums for several months as the NAS drives were full, but now had chance to clear some space

Was previously using Exact Audio Copy to rip to FLAC and MP3 tag to tag metadata and streaming to a Qute2. However I really struggled with my new Win8 i5 laptop which despite several tries to install latest EAC v1.3 and previous versions couldnt get it to work (crashed when started the rip, wouldnt decode ripped wv to FLAC)

So went back to old Celeron laptop which now wont rip direct to the NAS but will to internal drive which I then copied maually to the NAS drive

However, frustratingly the album tracklisting in the NAIM app, despite looking OK in MP3tag, is an alphabetically organised list rather than the correct running order and I cant find out in either the app or the Twonky maintenance menu how to correct this

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Is there any difference in the filename structure for your Celeron rips compared to your EAC rips? For instance, are your Celeron rips titled something like...

Abba - The Visitors.flac

Abba - When All Is Said And Done.flac

and your EAC rips titled something like...

01 - Abba - The Visitors.flac

02 - Abba - When All Is Said And Done.flac

and pesky Twonky is just sorting what it finds by filename?

Hi,

Sounds like the flac decoder is looking in the wrong place when decoding the wav to flac making it crash. In EAC look in the External Compression settings and make sure the "Program, including path, used for compression" is pointing at the relevant flac.exe file. There is also a button at the bottom to "Test Encoder" which will tell you if everything is correct.

Also make sure your "Additional command lines" are correct as this is the info that tells EAC what to write for metadata.

So should be something like:

-T "artist=%artist%" -T "title=%title%" -T "album=%albumtitle%" -T "date=%year%" -T "tracknumber=%tracknr%" -T "genre=%genre%" -0 %source%

...for a standard artist album.

You could always try pointing a different server at you music files, maybe Minimserver instead of Twonky.

Thanks for the pointers:

I've checked the file structure and the old one is " 01 - Forgive Me - City and Colour.flac" and the new one is "01. The Hurry and the Harm - City and Colour.flac". In EAC Options / Filename  the Naming Scheme is currently set to "%N. %T - %A" so I am presuming it was previously " %N - %T - %A"

In EACs External Compression Options the Additional Command-Line Options are:

-6 -V -T "ARTIST=%a" - T "TITLE=%T" -  "ALBUM=%g" - T "DATE=%y Y "TRACKNUMBER=%n" - T "GENRE=%m" -T "COMMENT=%e" %i--picture="%"%i %s o %d

The bit rate in the external compression is set to 768KB/s. I seem to recall a hazy memory of this being variable previously or am I imagining that?

The "Add ID3 tag option is not ticked

Do these settings look right - I will try the Test Encoder option shortly
