Another one of these dreary "what is the forum coming to posts"

Posted by: Sloop John B on 17 July 2017

I'm reminded of the song the lunatics are taking over the asylum.

I have 3 members blocked and can't seem to find a post where they are not prattling on and on and on.

If I were Naim I'd be very worried but I suppose the reappearance of Adam M may be a sign of the empire striking back.

less than 12 hours and my 3 "friends" have already visited, at least Adam has as well.

Thanks Adam. Never in my wildest imagination would I have guessed that Huysmans' Against Nature would one day find its way into a Naim forum thread such as this.

Thank God - and I thought I was the only mad one, thinking the Forum was descending into some form of magic-mushroom-induced craze...

You should have been here in 2002/3... that was like the brown acid they warned everyone against at Woodstock.

Quite a few other threads on the Forum recently have really degenerated into a "my Dad is bigger than your Dad" scuffle. I still find the "what are you listening to threads" invaluable - there are a number of contributors whose love of their music selections comes through in their postings.

One day, I hope to have a 272/250 level system but I won't be spending £20k on a turntable!

And by the way, I've broken into the top 1000 ranking. Vlad now sits proudly at #999! No doubt I'll move down the charts next week, having been a one hit wonder.

This thread is getting a little too serious...

Where the conversation is good, it is very good indeed.

Thanks, Naim, and all.

I'm not one of the three because I'm now posting for the first time on this thread after SJB's claim that his three mates have posted. Am I making sense?

Perfectly normal for new and just seasoned members to come in guns blazing to stir things up a little, wether qualified or not,   yes ?

A lot of you big beards have been on the Naim curve for many years, and mostly respected from others.  Although for the rest of us it can be daunting to word up about anything of significance. Perhaps the dumbing down can let some of us have something stupid to say.

I can’t see the problem

What’s more entertaining than a full blown argument, where none of the participants are correct.

At least (mostly) we don’t get cable arguments...

Oooh - what are they then?  Snakes perhaps? (I wonder if anyone oils theirs...)

Let's overturn these tables, disconnect these cables, this place don't make sense to me no more..........

There are some great threads though, such as Chris's redundancy thread where people were so empathetic and helpful.

Lack of responses/thanks from original posters no doubt kills a lot of threads. I was made redundant from a photography studio in 1991 and started working for myself. Never looked back and have plenty of advice to offer. I saw the thread, but noticed a lack of politeness, so didn't offer.

Count, I was in two minds whether to post at all on a subject so personal and intense for me. I've been gratified by the positive responses I've received. I'm sorry you feel the way you do about my lack of politeness. I'm glad you have more than turned things around after your redundancy in 91.

Chris, people responding to posts like yours are also usually writing from their personal experiences. And it takes time. As your thread was mentioned here, I was just using it as an example why I think many people don't bother posting. I actually wrote half a paragraph response to your thread and had the intention to complete it the following day when I had time.

all cables are not the same.

I used to be a anti-cable, a cable disbeliever, but cables really made my system much better, for a fraction of the cost of black box upgrades.

try it sometime.

me too, even more than 10 years.  I know today that cables are not just cables and bits are not  only bits....

Some cables are different from others

Severn Bridge

And it even applies to electrical cables

Pylon

I'm not sure where in my words it said all cables are the same, just a cable is a cable.... It might also be a called a wire, though technically I think a cable is a bundle of wires - and Huge has pictorially illustrated that there are differences far more extreme than we might consider in hifi discussions, yet indeed, every one of those cables is a cable!!!

It was a good excuse for a pretty picture of the Severn Bridge.

You've seen my dedicated feed then Huge

On a slightly more geeky note,  is that the 400kV feed from Dungeness ?

Posted on: 19 July 2017 by Huge

Sorry, I have no idea where it is!

On another note, you appear have a dedicated feed like the one the electricity company seem to think I have, they once tried to charge me £27,500 for nine days electricity.
I assured them that I wasn't trying to run an aluminium smelter, and that level of power use would have increased the temperature inside my house to over 1,000° Celcius!
