New Uniti front screen

While I do think that the new uniti design deserve more credits than criticism, I wonder if am I the only one who is concerned about the front touch screen (made of some plastic/perspex) becoming a scratch magnet?

Put a high quality glass cleaning cloth beside the unit. Only this cloth can touch the screen. No one else should come close.

I don't think you actually touch the screen it just for display purposes.

This is a fear I live with every day. My son is 2 and largely ignores my UQ2. Not so sure an Atom would be so lucky.

The new Uniti screens are made of glass and will not easily scratch. The fact they are made of glass is stated on the product pages. When you see them in the flesh, so to speak, you realise that the screens are incredibly solid.

I presume the option to turn the screen off will still be there on the new products, so hopefully any marauding toddlers will just see a boring black box.

Hi,

Just one point - the screen is not a touch screen...

Best Regards

Can you explain that in terms that a 2 year old would understand!?

How about using some of the screen saver covers that every one uses on their mobile phones. One of these cut to size and applied would afford protection and not cause any marking or damage to the screen

Hi,

The screen on an Atom / Star / Nova is a screen that displays information that allows you to see what the unit is doing and allows you to get feedback when controlling the unit via the handheld RF remote.

The screen itself has no touchscreen functionality in that it doesn't do anything if you touch it with your finger...

Cheers

Ahhhhh! Well not having had any experience of two years olds and explaining such things to them then I wouldn't know but how do you stop them poking a TV screen?

Q. How do I explain to my two year old that they shouldn't touch my Uniti Atom?

A. Don't worry about it. By the time the Atom arrives they will have left home.

I've gone through a number of 2 year olds, my own twins & a singleton.   Then grandkids who are now teensagers & one who is (as it happens) is a 2 year old (but now insists on being "nearly 3").  Between them we had no problems with any of the grown up toys  &  pleased to say my kids adapted the same way with their kids & also had zero collateral damage.   We just made it clear & firmly that they do not touch & then make sure they understand.  Unlike some of my other experiences with kids that are way out of control & who's parents seem to believe in 'negotiating' behavior terms.

That's here. I managed to negotiate a pair of Ovators 600s since they have steel grills protecting the BMR, are too heavy to turn over and have no sharp corners to hurt the kids (least of my worries, but it convinced my wife).

Negotiations are bi- or omnidirectional.

Good to know it is not "touch screen". It is quite a large surface and rather challenging to do "cutouts" for the buttons if I am looking for screen protector.

In case you are wondering, yes I do have custom cut screen protector for my NDX. :-)

I'm not famous for having a huge intellect, but I was hoping my post would at least put my age in double figures. I'll try harder next time

It always amuses me when parents of well-behaved children blame parents of less well-behaved children for that behaviour. Yes, you must be a brilliant parent.

I had a friend who had two beautifully behaved children and occasionally handed out advice to others to guide them toward's better performance - it's all about clarity and boundaries. Then, after a break, he had a third child. Oh my word, that kid. Strangely, his advice dried up after that, as did his soul, as far as I could tell.

My Atom seems to have special child magnet glass.  Roux (1.5yr old) was on a skype call to his great grandfather.  He took the phone, went straight over to the Atom (which has only been in the house a day) and proceeded to tell his great grandfather all about it in his own little way.  Then it was off to the speakers (also a day old) to do the same, but with added poking.  I live in fear for my Naim

I know how you feel. I wish someone would come round my house and show me how to reason with my son when he is in full Tantrum because he can't watch Thomas the Tank Engine.
