Speaker Cable

Dear Forum

I recently moved house which has meant that I could re-install my 'old' naim speaker cable.

I used Chord Rumour at my last house due to the length of the cable run and the fact that it was easier to use given the number of corners it had to negotiate, if that makes sense.

I'm happy with the sound at the moment, but given that the naim cable dates back to the 1990's I was just curious as to whether their newer cable would have any sound improvements over this older version? Hope that's not a totally daft question.

Thanks

Nigel

Assuming it's A5 (the stiff one) rather than A4 (the bendy one) then the current A5 is just the same. It will be worth getting it reterminated with Naim plugs at both ends though, then it will be good as new.

It'll be fine Nigel. Speaker cable doesn't tend to degrade. You might have a small amount of oxidation at the termination points where a very small amount of bare copper runs between the insulation and solder joint. You could always re terminate with new plugs to be sure. I'm assuming we are talking A5 (not the older more flexible  A4) terminated with Naim speaker plugs ?
