Selling on the Naim Forum
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 25 July 2017
Forum rules do not allow selling, buying or wanted ads, or even offers of giving things away. Yet the Naim Facebook site has lots of for sale ads. Why the difference?
Allante, yes a Supercao should be re-wirable for either 115 or 230v. Glad the dealer could do it for you.
Jon, I do get your point and, as I said, even pushed exact same idea years ago. I hope this time, if tried again, that more get behind it and issues worked out.
jon honeyball posted:Richard Dane posted:Jon, Naim would much rather customers buy from a Naim dealer. Many already offer good quality secondhand kit with a guarantee and sometimes even install. Some also get the kit serviced or checked by Naim before sale. No need to go to eBay...
You are missing the point. How do I find an item for sale at a uk naim dealer? Try trawling their websites? Hahahabonk. Phone each one in turn?
This is the issue. If I am looking for, say, an xpsdr where do I start looking?????
But that is the point, just buy new!
Only problem for me, I can't afford Brand new Naim!
2008/282 $3400 ~ Canada
2014/HCDR $1650 ~ US
2012/250 $3400 ~ US
2012/200 $2000 ~ US
2011/250 $2700 ~ US
2008/Cdx2 $1700 ~ Canada
4 tier Fraimlite $1250 ~ Netherlands 2nd hand

Not easy some sweating, Shipping Cost, and duties can kill a deal. Canada was idea for me, I could drive across the Border!
NAFTA, no taxes, just shipping cost, and 5% duties!
A learning process!
I will keep you posted Jon!
SC should be in the making shortly!
Don't throw out any of your old burndys, needed for Snaxo!
Allante93!

It’s a forum, not a sales tool for dealers.
I can’t see Naim allowing it. For good reason.
Lets say a forum member gets screwed over by an Arthur Daley-esque dealer on an item advertised on the Naim forum. They’re going to complain to Naim, “I bought a duff Naim component, on the Naim forum, from a naim dealer, what are you going to do about it”
a) doesnt have to be a forum - it could be a... gosh... website...
b) if a naim dealer is selling duff equipment, then i would hope naim would want to know about it. Or are you suggesting that arthur daley official naim dealers both exist and should be allowed to rip off customers without consequence?

....call in the Fiscal Bond that Dealers would have to put up before being allowed to advertise on the Naim Web-site.
And yes, Naim would have to have an arrangement whereby Naim is the FINAL arbiter in all disputes, so the Bond would have to cover the cost of Naim providing this "service".
But i'm sure Jon H can provide all these necessary details to Richard, based on the experience gathered from a multitude of other manufacturers who have successfully implemented such set-ups over the past 10 years or so.

Naim have a website https://www.naimaudio.com/
The forum is part of that website under the category Customer Support.
The meaning of the word forum is not ambiguous, what you’re suggesting belongs in the market place not the forum.
If by some chance Naim decided to promote the sale of second hand equipment through official dealers, these could be listed under products or have there own category, although I do appreciate having to click on the main website to gain access would be extremely tedious. (for some members)

As I recall BADA used to run an “ex demo” website. Appears that now they are Clarity they are no longer running anything similar.

It works just fine in other sectors of high value items which have significant ongoing value.
That it doesnt in hifi might tell you much about the limitations of most hifi manufacturers. QED.

Perhaps Naim should initiate an “approved used Hi-Fi” scheme like many car manufacturers run...
And the whole "naim itself is liable" thing is twaddle. The sale is between the dealer and the customer. End of. The transaction would not take place through the naim website. The posting is there as an *advert* with a link to take you to the dealer. Really quite simple, nothing complicated, and a significant value add and draw for customers to dealers for second hand purchases.
But hec, if you are happy spending thousands on Ebay or wherever, or trying to trawl through dozens of naim dealer websites, then go right ahead...
Another thing to consider is corporate identity, do the current owners of Naim want the Naim brand to associated with second hand equipment.
Take a look at Longines or Rolex websites, you won’t find a list of second hand watches for sale.
With regard to approved second hand cars, that scheme doesn’t work in my experience. My wife one from Vauxhall a few years ago, it should have been serviced and a 30 point check carried out, before delivery. They delivered it without even changing the oil.

The benefit of buying on ebay is the low purchase price. With items such as amplifiers, you can buy on ebay get it serviced at class A for less than you’d pay a dealer.
Jon. With regards to wasting time trawling dealers websites, I think you’re preaching to the wrong people. The average forum member probably wastes a couple of hours a day on the forum. And lets face it we are wasting our time.
Well yes, Rolex doesnt have 2nd hand sales website -- but it flogs a million watches a year, so it is not exactly in the exclusive product category, despite their prices...
