Why do forums never allow 'dislike' compared to 'like'?

Take Facebook as another example...

is it trying to promote a humanistic world?

Oh man! There you go with those negative waves.

I do agree there are times that the wow or laugh type of icons don't actually cover the situation.

As for emojis there is no way I want to even try and decipher those.

What is the point of 'like' (forget 'dislike') on this forum.   On teenage twittersphere-faceache apps for best friends clubs, the ultimate 'dislike' is to 'unfriend'.   However IMO this forum would be better off without this type of stuff,  keep it simple & basic,  its audio brand forum to post interests & exchange ideas & advise on equipment & music.    Leave the 'like' & stuff to the teenage apps.

The Like is a good idea ... better than forums where threads are continually littered with posts which just say "+1"

What happened... Did a sign light up, saying 'Please do not press this button again.”?

(Douglas Adams ... wrote so little but always has something relevant to say)

"the black button on a black background which lights a black light when pressed"? DA again (paraphrase).

Those who take up arms and go off on a ranting route about something can be easily palmed off with a ' like'.

Nigel the Halibut has banned +1's,  those found guilty will be sentenced to listen to the entire Justin Bieber catalogue.

I'm following Justin Bieber on Facebook.

A dislike button seems a bit unhealthy to me. If you don't agree with something, fine, explain your contrary position and have a proper discussion about it, that's what the forum should be for. An unqualified negative stance achieves nothing.

Many forums have up vote / down vote.

Is there a dislike button there?

Perhaps we also need a 'Meh!' button as well (for when you just don't care a jot about the subject at all).

And maybe even 'Kiefkief' (for when you don't mind which ever way it goes).

I use Like for posts I might want to refer to later rather than as a voting mechanism. The Music Room people use it more than HiFi Corner for some reason!

That's fine as long as your are not just following him. That would be creepy.

Like…sorry….+1. Bu**er, I really don't have the hang of they interweb forum stuff. Agree with ChrisSU, there is already too much disharmony and trolls in this world without encouraging more. if you disagree with a point of view, then say so and explain why.

+1. Don't go to any bother, I have all The Smiths albums already.

The real “feature” that’s missing from all forums I’ve used, the ability to click to hide a thread.  You know those car crash threads that you know you shouldn’t read but keep drawing you back.  Oh to hide them for my sanity!
