NAC152XS Power Supplies
Posted by: Sister Ray on 26 July 2017
The 152XS can be powered by two separate external power supplies. Can someone please explain which section(s) of the pre each psu input powers, and which deserves the better of the two external supplies?
A NAP 150, NAP 200 or equivalent can power a NAC152XS; a PS is optional.
By the time you answer your specific question, you will probably have moved to a NAC 202 or better.
On the other hand, sometimes a PS turns up at a ridiculous-good price -- then you can tell us what e.g. a Supercap or two sounds like through a 152.

I'm sorry but you appear to have completely misunderstood my question, which has nothing to do with upgrading preamps, but rather everything to do with maximising the performance of the one I already own.
I am perfectly aware that many Naim power amps will power this pre. However, I already possess a Flatcap, and will be taking delivery of a fuly refurbished Hi Cap in the near future.
The 152XS has the capability to utilise two external power supplies. What I want to know is which sections of the preamp each external psu input powers and which should get the Hi Cap, and which the Flatcap.
One power the LEDs, volume control motors etc (all those digital stuff) while one powers the actual pre section of the 152.
You can use the flatcap on the "upgrade 1" and use the HiCap on the "upgrade 2" for the best effect.
Exactly what I wanted to know IVN. Big thank you ![]()
When I owned the 152 I used a Hicap on upgrade 2 and the rare as hens teeth isupply on upgrade 1.
Lovely pre the 152
Sorry for the Sister Ray. You are correct -- I misunderstood your Q. Nick
For future reference - your setup is detailed on page 18 of the Connection guide (as stated, Hicap on upgrade 2).

I have a 152 + Flatcap XS powering both upgrade options. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the Hicap upgrade.
I have tried powering my previous 152 with both HCDR and FCXS in my active setup but something went wrong. Peter came for a visit and we concluded that FCXS powering both upgrade is the best options and provide more balance sound high and low frequencies.
Very interesting result Achique. Not what one would expect, but entirely valid nonetheless There are sometimes strange synergistic effects which occur between hardware and psus. I also have a flatcap 2 which I may enter into the equation in light of your comment.
To be entirely honest the Hi Cap I am receiving has been modified by a third party who has expressly stated that they do not wish to be engaged in forum discussion in any manner, so I am very limited in any feedback I can provide with respect to its performance.
