Supercap Wiring Configuration
Posted by: The Strat (Fender) on 29 July 2017
Guys,
Educate me. My 282 is wired to its HC with a single SNAIC. I understand that if I have a SC there are 2 wires. Are they both venemous or does one just carry the audio signal?
Regards,
Lindsay
The second DIN power feed on the back of the SC that says 'for 282 only' or something is power only-no audio.
Output 2 is labelled power. As Ron says, this cable only carries power to the 282 - another 2x 24v rails in addition to the 2x 24v rails & audio carried between the 282 and Output 1 of the SC.
Both cables are SNAIC5.
Thanks guys.
Don't cross the Snaics.

Were one to do that would it result in equipment damage or just no sound ?
No sound.
Thanks. Mine is cabled up as per the manual.. but never considered, before, the implications of crossing the Snaics.
SNAICS - Can turn nasty, if crossed, or cornered....

Excuse my asking what may seem to be a naive question, but why on earth does the audio signal have to go through a power supply box? Surely a power supply is transformer and regulation/smoothing circuittry, which effectively replaces the same in the amplifier box, with no audio component needed, and routing the audio through the PS adds longer signal path and more connections, risking deterioration in sound quality?
It's all to do with the star earthing which is key to the Naim NAC/Power amp designs, so if you didn't route the audio signal ground reference via the powersupply there would be a loss of performance.
Thanks Simon
