The Chair

Posted by: Acred on 31 July 2017

After a long and tortuous sellling process we've managed to sell the house and despite there being extremely low stock levels with estate agents we've found a place to live. The accommodation lends itself to using a room for the stereo on its own. I think the seat for the listener is just as important as the rack for the boxes and in my case the stand for the speakers.

Can anyone give there thoughts on their experiences of choosing a chair especially if there's anything to be avoided.

I realise the obvious thing is to go and try but we had to replace a pair of settees a few years back. We were restricted on size so this limited our choice. Bought something that tested ok in the shop but after a while we both agree that these are not as comfortable as we first thought.

Thanks

Ackers

Get a sofa big enough for two or three. High enough to allow easy getting up and down and not too comfortable, you don't want to fall asleep.

This is at least the third time this topic has come up, so there are data to be had. The Ekornes Stressless seems to be a favorite.

I like mine, but I need to pound the base back together with a rubber mallet every once in a while.

Vibrapods put under chairs feet ( and a Sheet of A4 paper under one ) works wonders for soundstage and timbre

Better still, you can get 'vibration' or 'shaker' speakers that can be fitted to the chphair, vibrating it with the bass notes (for feel not audibility), primarily, I think, designed for home cinema effects.

Could be interesting used with headphones, when even playing loudly there is no body feel as there would be with live music...

I do agree that Poang chairs are amazing value and very comfortable. We use those in our day room, but I have to wrestle with one of my large maine coon cats for the right to sit in mine, especially if it's raining outside.

In my study I chose an office chair that can do for working when that is really necessary, but that also has the right recline, support and arm and head rests to make me want to sit back and listen to the music, especially the wonderful BBC Radio 3 FLAC trial on at the moment (but I need to think more about a foot stool for Fridays when there isn't usually so much real work to be done!)

best

Yes David this has me thinking.  Retirement beckons (Dec) and I need to think about my study.  What chair goes best with Neat Iotas and Uniti Atom?

I have a leather swivel chair and a sofa in the office/study and a leather sofa in the listening room, all options covered....

Coffee machine not too far away either...

What would be ideal is an extremely comfortable chair/ sofa with built in Coffee machine and drinks cabinet.... Maybe it could have built in massage function as well....

How about an electric chair, with naim powerline of course, therefore you  have a chair that's is more comfortable, softer, better defined  .....more enjoyable...

Apparently it works best with your feet in water...

Didn't Signory Weaver have something like that that Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Bill Murray had to sort out?

Seems a little bog-standard to match a 500 series

You need to be pretty 'flush' to afford one....
