QNAP Firmware

Posted by: Guy007 on 01 August 2017

I know the saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but people should be aware that some of the QNAP Firmware seems to be on the last version, or soon to be last, as the products are going End of Life (EOL).  I'm not sure what is triggering this - maybe a refresh of the range ? -  but the reason for posting this is more to make people aware if they were due to purchase one of the models below, it won't be getting any updates soon. The bottom link might be the most useful for helping in purchasing decisions.

Doesn't stop the product from working though, I have an old TS-109 must be 10 years old and it still works.

Hifiman, agreed, I have a TS-459 Pro II, 6 years (touch wood) of no issues.  But I would look to the next generation if buying now.

Good point if there are a few old models floating around at a good price, someone buys then finds out no firmware in a couple of months.

Just checked and my old TS-109 is 10 years old launched in 2007, even though the firmware for this ceased in 2011 QNAP did release vulnerabilities patch in 2014 for the GNU Bash.

I use a TS-412 for storing music etc owned this for around 6 years and use the old TS-109 mainly for local backups, also use a TS-119 offsite across a Wi-Fi bridge at my brother in-laws to store music folders, he lives about half a Kilometre away works well.
