nserve app for tablets
Posted by: ray sheldon on 01 August 2017
Evening all,
I have decided to replace my aging Ipad with a smaller handheld Samsung tablet. I have the Naim app for NDX but also need nserve for ripping monitor and to create play lists on my US.
Why is this not available from the play store, if anyone knows?
Cheers,
Ray.
Unfortunately, the nserve app is only for iOS and no android versions are available ...
Thanks.
If you have a Mac you'll need to use N-Serve on that, or the DTC. Unfortunate for you, as playlist creation on the iOS app which you already have in your hand to control the streamer is a very convenient feature.
It's a shame the Naim app playlist feature isn't reliable, as this would be even better, and wouldn't exclude Android users.
Chris means the Windows Desktop Controller (DTC) if you have a PC. You can download it from Naim's website. You have to use the right version, depending on what firmware your Unitiserve is running. Or N-serve for Mac, as he says.
If you haven't bought the android tablet yet you might want to look at an iPad mini instead. If buying secondhand you need a version that will run IOS 9.3 at least because the current Naim app requires that, as I am sure you know. But anyway you will be able still to use the Nserve IOS app, which is very user-friendly.

Just for clarity, DTC stands for desktop client, rather than controller. I agree with David, an iPad Mini seems ideal, then you can carry on as you were before.
All,
Thanks for the clarity. Yes I have used the DTC to manage music/settings etc.
Too late with the tablet though, already in use! Was fed up with the Ipad crashing when browsing the net and haven't had any issues with the Samsung phone controlling the NDX so decided to go with same brand for tablet, and didn't want to spend much given that I've got enough devices already.
Although the Ipad will be passed to my son to abuse, I can still use it for nserve duties as and when I need to so I can live with that.
Best,
Ray.
