Power line lite

Was waiting for the wife in town and browsed one of the current hifi mags that has a review of the Naim power line lite. It gets a 5 star rating, and not just for Naim equipment, do check it out if you are interested in this upgrade to your mains cables.

Hi,

I replaced my stock mains cables for power-line lite cables on my 5si series combo a while back and glad I did.

I have also read the review in the magazine to which you refer to and they have it spot on with my findings too.

Ah, here it is - https://www.naimaudio.com/site...20Lite_HFW_Sep17.pdf

I got one with my Core but have to confess that I'm using a Chord Company shielded cable instead. The plug might be a work of art  but I have to admit being a little underwhelmed by the cheap kettle cord and connector attached to it - certainly for the RRP

I use one on my Qb. I chopped off the IEC and put a Furutech figure of 8 cable on the end. It works jolly well.

I'd thought putting a new cable and Furutech IEC on the plug but haven't got as far as opening the later up yet just in case I screw the whole thing up in the process! Oops does this qualify as an unauthorised upgrade?

I think if you are going to that trouble you may as well get a fully fledged Powerline, with the isolation at both ends. I only used a Furutech Figure 8 plug because I was able to screw it on the end, after cutting off the IEC, so as I didn't need to use an IEC to Figure 8 adaptor, which made the wire stick out too far and look scruffy. In hindsight putting the Lite mains plug on a £2 Figure 8 lead would have been a lot cheaper. Anyway, it's done now.

I said on a recent thread that I'd moved to PL lites. I have an olive system, 82/Hicap/2*135s, being something of a mains-lead sceptic they were using the original 25-30 year old Naim mains leads that came with the boxes. I recently got the olives serviced, and noted at the time that the cables had suffered quite a bit with house moves and general wear and tear, with the sheathing looking cracked and frayed. I replaced them with PLLs (all but the NAPSC which has a captive lead) and was genuinely surprised. I'd mainly done it to avoid accidental electrocution, but the improvement was close to the one that came from the service, the lower end picked up quite a bit of punch and slam, and I was able to listen at lower volume levels for the same enjoyment.

A definite good value upgrade in my system, I'm looking at the lead that goes into the Roksan TMS power supply and seriously thinking about replacing it as well, the NDX is new and came with a PLL.

You're limited with the cable diameter on the Lite mains plug. As HH says, picking up a full fat PL would make sense,

Ravenswood,   the IEC plug on the PL-Lite is the same or near the same as the old stnd issue cable.  It is as good as any of the moulded on type of plugs that I have seen & it feels a good positive engagement into the male socket (receptacle).    I really don't think a plug like Furutech will do much except damage your wallet.

It did exactly what the above review says when I added it to my SuperCap DR and NAPSC powering my 282. It didn't add anything to the 300DR PS at that time, but maybe it could.
