SN2

Ok so i took the flatcap or and fitted a highcap DR tonight and after a few hours warm up I'm blown away. The music just sounds alive! A big three dimensional sound stage. It now sounds like the music has been lifted from the speakers and placed into the room. Devine!
Thats good, AFAIK the HiCap is a much better supply for the SN2
It is an amazing transformation, kind of makes you wonder what a couple members here are hearing when they say the SN2 doesn't benefit from the addition of the HCDR.
Just an FYI, Naim does not recommend the use of the FC on the SN2, it was fine for the SN1, but the only power supplies that are recommended for the SN2 are the HCDR and the SCDR.
This info is straight from Naim and Steve Hopkins. You can verify this, which is what I did, if you e-mail Naim directly at info@naimaudio.com.
Please don't point out what it says in the owners manual about the use of the FC power supply on the SN2, I pointed this out on my e-mail to Naim, who said they will be updating the owners manual.
Ncpphil,
Use of a FC on the SN2 is definitely a retrograde step, glad you've acknowledged that. Now use the HCDR objectively for a long enough period to get over the hi-fi "wow factor" and see where you sit with the overall musicality. No doubt the SN2 benefits from the HCDR addition in certain respects. The larger question is whether it works for you in your room in the long-term. I hope it does.
BTW - what speakers are you using and how big is your room?

I think the PSU in the SN2 is bigger &/or better than that of the FC.
Just let it run for everal months now.
I love my SN2 with a HCDR - it transformed it.
Hadnt ever really thought about adding one to my SN2, preferring to stick with 3 boxes. Might have to try it sometime and see what I think.

The FC is a very basic PSU with old tech voltage regulation . The SN's internal regulator is DR, its a single rail supply thats split into two in the 'upgrade' plug (link) to feed each of the pre-amp sections stereo channels. The HC is also DR but also full dual rail with two independent regulators.
NB: The FC doesn't do much for the SN(1)

HI joerand I'm using neat SX2 with Q black cable.
Thanks.
Seemingly great system you have going then. I'd love to hear Neat speakers, especially from their Momentum isobaric range, but unfortunately no dealers in my region. Best wishes for your continued enjoyment with the HCDR.
Love the SN2 and Hi Cap DR combination. Keeps it simple and love the control it has over all aspects of the delivery. Naim at its simplest & best, that makes such beautiful music with an LP12!

Great you love your SN2/HCDR combo, but I'd argue that Naim at it's simplest is the bare SN2. Tough to contest that on grounds of simplicity, especially when interconnects, shelving, and the most direct route to replay are taken into account. Best? I'll take the bare SN2 over the HCDR combo.
