I recently moved house and am struggling with my NDX NAS setup. In the old house, I had the NAS (Synology 215j) connected to the network and hard wired into the NDX via CAT 5 cabling through the house. Everything worked perfectly.
My problem in the new house is that I do not have integrated cabling to each room and the router is in a different room to the NDX and can't be brought nearer.
So - what to do? I have bought a USB wireless adapter for the Synology but it won't install. Is making the NAS wireless capable the only way to do this?
Is there an arrangement where I could hard wire the NAS into the router and somehow get that signal to the NDX?
The NDX is able to connect to Tidal and iRadio wireless without a problem (I have 200Mbps cable broadband) so I know that is all OK - it's just I cannot get to my FLAC ripped and downloaded music on the NAS
Totally confused. Advice needed please.
Alternatively.................what are the requirements to ship all the FLAC content on to an external hard drive and plug into the USB socket on the front of the NDX? Is that possible? Or does it only work with an iPod?
Thanks in advance

You should have some spare Ethernet ports on the back of the router, put an Ethernet cable between the NAS and the router, that should make the NAS visible on the network, and you'll be able to access it over wireless.

Yes, it should show as a Upnp server. Have you connected your NDX to the house wifi? Yiu need to connect the wifi aerial, then configure the NDX to use wireless. Section 4.5.1 of the manual describes the setup, the manual's on the Naim website here:

The NDX wouldn't see the NAS as such. It would only see the UPnP software media server. I understand that Synology has its own proprietary media server which you may need to activate/configure or you can load Minimserver onto your Synology NAS.
Mike-B is our resident expert on Synology so hopefully he should be along to help.

As the NAS was visible in the previous house, I guess it's running either Media Server or a 3rd party package. You could check whether the UPnP server is running, if it's mediaserver, then log into the NAS, choose Package Centre, Media Server, it should show its status. If it's stopped, then the Action button under the odd blue and green graphic has a dropdown to start it.
If you're connected to the network at the NDX and meria Server is running, then I think a quick email to Phil as suggested is a good call.

I don't think this is a Synology issue as such, Getting the Synology up onto the network seems to be the issue, I'm not familiar with doing this over a USB wireless adapter & that seems to be the issue. Reading up it seems that first the USB must be 'compatible' with Synology (I guess that means not all will work) I looked into my DSM (Control Panel>Wireless) & it stops me looking up the setting pages because it needs the USB dongle installed to do that. Reading how to do it on line seems straightforward enough >>>>> https://www.synology.com/en-uk...ion_network_wireless ........ outside that I can't help, other than suggest connecting NAS to broadband hub via an ethernet.

Yeah- WiFi aerial connected and ndx connected to wireless network no problem (hence Tidal and I radio OK)
Using media server so will have a look to see its status

To answer your last question first, the USB ports on the streamer aren't intended for large drives, just iPhones and USB sticks.
If you look in your router settings, is the NAS visible there? Alternatively, there's a good little iPhone app called Net Analyzer which allows you to see the status of all devices on your network. If the NAS has an IP address and is visible on your network, the streamer should be able to see it.
It's possible the streamer and app need a reset to work on your new network.
Regarding the NAS and its WiFi adapter, I would try wiring the NAS directly to your router, at least temporarily, to see if it then becomes visible.

Reading through the thread, the question that springs to mind is are you sure you are running a UPnP media server on your NAS?... if so and you plug your NAS into your switch that the NDX is plugged into your NDX should see the media server on its display when in UPnP mode. You can control by the front buttons, but wifi / Naim app is far more convenient...
Assuming you can see your NAS from a connected PC or MAC, and you are sure you are running a UPnP media server... if you are wanting to to connect your NAS via wifi... ensure your wifi is not filtering out broadcast or multicast data... if this sounds like double Dutch best keep it simple and wire the NAS to the switch...
