RIP Glen Campbell

When I was learning to strum a guitar as a kid, his tunes (Wichita Lineman, Galveston, Try A Little Kindness) were staples of my fake book learning. RIP Glen. 81 years old.

Glad I got this a few months ago - will play tonight:

And Glen himself was no slouch picking a git-fiddle...

My older sister was a fan of Glen so I heard my share of him through the bedroom wall growing up. Always enjoyed what he did. Good tunesmith and did covers very well. Watched his variety show in the early-80s and he was a good entertainer. I found his casting as the Texas Ranger in "True Grit" a bit curious, but I guess he had enough star-power at the time to stand along side The Duke.

My all time favourite song was "Like a 9 stone cowboy"

So very sad, from all accounts a true gent as well and never let fame get to him.

A true crossover legend and ace guitar picker. A friend met him once and said he was a very nice humble guy. RIP Glen.

Excellent documentary 'I'll be me' on Netflix. Specially if you can play it through your Naim system

RIP great man

I saw his final UK tour (Birmingham - November 2011) and bought the t-shirt which says "Thank you and Goodbye", which words I repeat today with great sadness.

A sad tale - it wasn't until later in my life that I got to appreciate what a fantastic guitar player he was. Those Jimmy Webb-penned songs were classics. My mum was mad on country music in the late 60s and 70s - along with Marty Robbins, GC was her favourite and I have memories of his records playing on the music centre in our front room.
