NAP250

Posted by: HiFiman on 09 August 2017

Unable to afford the 250dr I have opted for a recently serviced (at Naim July 17) NAP250 to replace my NAP100.

The NAP250 dates back to 1985 and started life as a Chrome Bumper, back in 2008 it was converted to Olive with the newer Grey/Olive fascia, looks mint on the photos.

Plus factor is that this 250 comes with the Holden Fisher transformer.

Many years ago I had an Olive 250 and at the time with an 82/Hi-Cap, but change of house new room layout did not do this setup justice so sold the lot.

Anyway the 250 arrives tomorrow, Proac Tab 10 are quaking at the moment in anticipation.

So system tomorrow 272/XP5XS/250 and Proac's cannot wait.

im just wondering when the get a proper stand people will chime in. I have my gear on a similar type rack. Mine is on an AV stand by BDI but I am curious about SQ improvement with a proper rack. Looks nice. Enjoy it!

You have probably guessed it's an Ikea £20 cabinet with a slight modification, originally full of vinyl then ended up putting kit on it, system sounds alright to me.

Listening late last night was awesome, wife and kids in bed but the level of detail from the 250 at low volume compared to the 100 was amazing without waking the house up.

the NAP 250 is a legendary amp, and amazing thing about it, how long ago The CB250 was designed, and continues to amaze even in 2017 !

It is that rare and luxurious thing : a fully regulated amplifier, only a few companies on the world make regulated amplifiers, but Naim makes ones with the Pace Rhythm and Timing.

Enjoy it.

that really is a great looking set up there Hifiman. As has already been said, the 250 (CB) is a real gem and with the rest of your kit, just a great balance. The fun begins....

[@mention:8184226735374105] - I also own a 1985 vintage NAP250 - originally CB (so H&F transformer) , converted by Naim to the Olive 'look' in 2003.

It has been in use since 1985, in all of my systems - and still is.  £822 well spent....?

Sorry missed this post,  wow owned since 1985 now that's a testament to the CB250, also 1985 is there some significance to this year as mine, yours and Richards is an 1985 model

32 years on and still producing great tunes, a classic amp.

Over the past few days my 250 has really opened up and is a keeper long term, love it, also sounds much better than my previous 250 (later olive model) when I had my 82, maybe it's the vintage and the HF transformer.

I have something similar to this Ikea rack and have purchased several Ikea bamboo cutting boards (of the thinnest) to fit below the black boxes. Match quite well sizewise, just a tiny bit wider. I even use one below my Planar 1.

3 of these will set you off less than £30

Put whatever beneath of rubber duts, ball bearings or the like.

Great cheapskate upgrade

Thanks Tony. 11 days in and each day improvements have been noticed and works very very well with Tab10s.

Hifiman - What are the approx dimensions of your listening room with the 250/10's? As I mentioned a few weeks back we are downsizing and the little Proac's might be ideal.

Thanks in advance,

My speakers fire across the width of my room not ideal but this is the only position for them.

Room length is 27ft width 11ft

Play room is through those doors, in a couple of years my system will be moving into there much bigger space and better layout

from the hot seat

no issues with the room regarding the sound, plenty of bass from these fab speakers.
